A pupil of the UPCT Naval School advises the design of the submarines of the Taiwanese Navy (06/11/2017)

The student of the School of Naval Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Juan Herrero, of only 25 years, has been hired by an international firm to advise the design of the submarines of the Taiwanese Navy.

Herrero, who already stood out during his first years as a student leading the Sirena project for the creation of a solar submarine by students, has been working since this month as an expert consultant in submarine structures for an English company in the coastal city of Kaohsiung.

"The work is amazing.

It gives me the possibility to have a perspective of the whole structure of the submarine, which is very difficult in such large projects.

And the best thing is the opportunity to work with eminences such as Martin Renilson, president of the institute of naval architects of Australia, or Stephen Brooke, honorary member of the Royal Institution Naval Architects ", highlights the student of the UPCT.

After practicing in Navantia, Herrero was hired in the shipyard by the auxiliary company Techno Pro Hispania and later went on to work for the firm CT Ingenieros, where he was responsible for the department of calculation of structures.

His brilliant professional career has now taken him to Taiwan after receiving an offer through LinkedIn.

"I am the first surprised, because I am very young and I do not have any level of English, but the consulting team has trusted me and I hope to participate in this great project for at least two years", comments the student of the Polytechnic of Cartagena , who has to submit the Final Degree Project to be named as a naval engineer.
