Ana Blandiana participates in a meeting with 21 young poets (06/11/2017)

The poet Ana Blandiana met with 21 young poets, the morning of this Saturday, November 6, in an act framed within the Deslinde festival.

The meeting called 'Café Conversos' consisted of a closed act that was held at the Museum of Modern Art (MURAM), Plaza de la Merced, 15).

The Councilor for Culture, David Martínez Noguera, accompanied the artist and the young people in this meeting, in which they could also contemplate the exhibition of Lidó Rico 'Corpus'.

The invited poets were: Elena Trinidad Gómez, Luxury Berner, Héctor Tarancón Royo, Beatriz Miralles, Noelia Illán Conesa, Samuel Jara, Fran Conesa, Ana Soto, Annie Costello, Marina Alcolea, Pablo Serrano, Mery Salem, Manuel Torres Nieto, Jesus Sanmartin, Reyes Cano Mármol, Saúl Lozano, Carmen Juan, Anabel Úbeda, Daniel J. Rodríguez, and David Cano.

Ana Blandiana had been received on Friday 3 November, by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and that same afternoon she gave a recital in the Ceremonial Hall of the Town Hall (Plaza del Ayuntamiento), with free admission.

The poet was accompanied by her translators into Spanish, Viorica Patea (Professor at the University of Salamanca) and Natalia Carbajosa (PhD in literature and poet).

Ana Blandiana (Timisoara, 1942) is one of the most outstanding figures of contemporary European poetry and literature and is a great public figure in her country, Romania.

As her Spanish translator Viorica Patea writes, accompanying her on her trip to Cartagena, "the place that Ana Blandiana, by her true name Otilia Valeriu Comán, occupies in Romanian culture is comparable to that of Ana Ajmátova or Václav Havel in the Russian or Czech literature.

Author of fourteen books of poetry, two volumes of fantastic stories, nine of essays and a novel, for which she has received numerous national and international awards, Blandiana is currently the most international Romanian poetess.

His books of poems and essays have been translated into twenty-four languages, in a total of fifty-eight different volumes ».

Blandiana has a literary and civic journey that impresses: he reorganized the Romanian PEN Club whose presidency he assumed from 1990 to 2004. He founded and presided over the Civic Alliance (1991-2001), an independent organization that fought for democracy and made it possible for Romania to enter In the EU and under the aegis of the Council of Europe, Ana Blandiana created the "Memorial of the Victims of Communism and Resistance" in Sighet.

This museum, which is both a research center and a summer school, is considered the third museum of European consciousness after Auschwitz and the Normandy memorial.

In recognition of her contribution to European culture and her incessant struggle for human rights, Blandiana was awarded the highest distinction of the French Republic, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, and the US Department of State.

He was awarded the Romanian Women of Courage Award.

Ana Blandiana is an honorary doctor by several universities and her books have been awarded the most prestigious awards in the world.

He has received many other national and international awards: Poetry Prize of the Union of Writers of Romania (1969), Narrative Prize of the Writers Association of Bucharest (1982), National Poetry Prize "Mihai Eminescu" (1997), Prize " Opera Omnia "of the Union of Writers of Romania (2001), Gottfried von Herder Prize (Vienna 1982), International Prize of Vilenica Literature (Slovenia 2002), International Camaiore Poetry Prize (Italy 2005), Special Poetry Prize" Giuseppe Acerbi "(Modena 2005).

He is a member of the European Academy of Poetry (Luxembourg), of the Poetry Academy "Stéphane Mallarmé" (Paris, 1997) and is among the founding members of the World Poetry Academy (UNESCO, Verona, 2001).

The last prize has been achieved this month: it is one of the most prestigious poetry prizes in Canada, the 'Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry', which is awarded in recognition of the poetic work of a lifetime.

The jury highlighted that "Blandiana's poetry fascinates with metaphorical frankness, philosophical depth, the desire to express the inexpressible".
