The Popular University of Cartagena inaugurates the academic year 2017-2018 (31/10/2017)

The Popular University of Cartagena celebrated yesterday, October 30, the official opening of the course presided over by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.

The event took place in the afternoon in the lobby of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, headquarters of this Popular University, which was also attended by the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez.

At the official opening of the course, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, highlighted with her words the great teaching work done by the Popular University of Cartagena.

"This institution is the work of an exceptional marriage, formed by Carmen Conde and Antonio Oliver, who at one point in their lives, led by their fond vocation for teaching and to promote equality among all citizens, faced the challenge of creating the Popular University of Cartagena with the objective of spreading the culture among the working class ".

In recent years, the institution seeks to strengthen its decentralization so that the work it performs is, day by day, more present in the neighborhoods and councils of Cartagena.

In this sense, the mayor of Culture has explained that "given the success that is having the training in neighborhoods and councils have decided to expand the number of free workshops that are offered there, to reach 88, in the course we inaugurated Yesterday".

The director of the Popular University, José Macián, took the opportunity to give a few brief touches of the varied and multidisciplinary offer of the Popular University for this new academic year, which covers different areas.

The Training Area: prepares for access to different training cycles, access to the University and also to obtain the ESO degree.

In the Language Area: offer six English groups and two German ones.

The Area of ​​New Technologies and Photography: teaches skills as necessary as the management of the Tablet, and training in photography.

The Workshops Area: has a wide offer with: Sculpture, Ceramics, Crafts, Art Therapy and Cutting and Dressmaking in different districts and councils, and Drawing and Painting.

In the Health and Wellbeing Area: As a novelty the School of Emotional Intelligence has been created in collaboration with the University of Murcia, with the aim of training parents and students of different educational centers in personal growth and development tools.

In the Humanities Area: Highlights include the Bazar de Letras, the vocal technique workshop, the singing workshop and the new Film Bazaar.

All these areas are expanded with a variety of programs and activities that complete the cultural and formative offer of the institution such as the Cultural Routes through Cartagena, along with the trips programmed for students to other places of national and international interest.

The Popular University in Tu Barrio program is renewed for this new course.

The Summer Courses, also offer varied and attractive novelties for the summer season.

A summer of cinema will bring the cinema to the neighborhoods and councils of Cartagena.

All of them together with the lectures and monothematic modular courses that are incorporated in the day to day.

Poetry is part of the essence of this institution and manifests itself in the celebration each year of the prestigious International Poetry Prize Antonio Oliver, which, this year celebrates its XXXI edition.

The Popular University is also present in other cultural milestones and events in the city, such as the La Mar de Músicas Festival, led by its teachers who carry out La Mar de Arte, the Sea of ​​Letters and the Chicano Sea, and through collaborations such as the Night of the Museums, the Mandarache Prize, the Much More May and others.
