A world of sounds to improve pediatric hospitalization in Saint Lucia (25/10/2017)

Fundación FADE and Hospital Santa Lucía put into action "La caja de música", an activity of music therapy for children admitted to the Pediatrics plant and in which "la Caixa" Obra Social works.

Fundación FADE and Hospital Santa Lucía de Cartagena have just launched the "La Caja de Música", a pioneering project in our region in the area of volunteering with children hospitalized to improve the hospitalization of the youngest through the resources it offers music.

"The Music Box" is composed of a series of music therapy workshops intended to alleviate the negative effects of hospital stay and improve their abilities through music.

It is, therefore, an opportunity for children to find entertainment and dispersion through music.

Directed by experts in music therapy and with the help of FADE Foundation volunteers, they perform auditions, musical games, sound exploration, etc.

to grow in sensory stimulation, facilitate relaxation and reduce the stress of these hospitalized children.

Once a month in the hospital classroom, children work on corporal expression, vocal and instrumental, movement, and plastic and dramatic aspects, always around a theme.

The first workshop on "Musical Halloween" took place yesterday afternoon and had the participation of 10 minors.

This will be followed by others such as "Gnomes and Fairies", "A Journey to the Universe", "Christmas came" and "Come and see: in the Circus", among others.

Music has demonstrated the ability to energize or relax, facilitate thought or distract our attention;

helps us to connect with reality and to develop creativity and fantasy and to create spaces of communication that go far beyond words.

"La Caja de Música" is part of the 'SECUNDA Smile' volunteer project that the FADE Foundation has been developing at the Santa Lucía Hospital thanks to the collaboration of the "la Caixa" Obra Social and which during the first months of 2017 has attended to 417 children and 327 onco-hematological patients thanks to the support of a hundred volunteers.
