A young woman from Ivory Coast attends an MBA at UPCT thanks to an agreement with the Women for Africa Foundation (24/10/2017)

She is the first university student to arrive at the Polytechnic since the agreement was signed in 2016

Esmeralda Poupoin is 25 years old, from Ivory Coast and is ready to make the most of her time at the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena.

It is the first time that this young woman comes to train at the Spanish university and she does it thanks to the agreement signed in 2016 by the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena and the foundation presided by María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, Mujeres por África.

The young woman has studied the career of Marketing and Advertising.

Expect this experience to be able to improve your level of Spanish and specialize in an area that also interests you: the business.

In addition, it does not rule out, if a grant is obtained, to take the double doctorate with the UPCT to serve also in your country.

According to the coordinator of the Acadia project, training of teachers and technicians from Sub-Saharan Africa, and researcher at the UPCT María Dolores de Miguel, Esmeralda was selected from among all applicants for the scholarship to attend a year of studies at the Polytechnic because also managed the Spanish.

"Speaking Spanish is going to make more use of the year," says De Miguel, who has received it with the vice-rector of Internationalization, José Manuel Ferrández.

In addition, he has also asked the UPCT to attend the Spanish classes offered by the Language Service to improve their level.

The agreement between the UPCT and Mujeres por África allows collaboration between the two institutions in the field of university training and research, in order to contribute to the development of Africa and especially of the women of that continent.

Among the actions that have been launched, the online training and scholarships for African university students stands out.

Women for Africa is a private non-profit foundation created by the ex-president of the Spanish government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, whose main objective is to promote cooperation and development projects with women as the main protagonist.

The UPCT belongs to the Spanish universities with which this foundation has agreements of collaboration and that has allowed in the last two years to finance scholarships for 17 African women.
