The Elders of Cartagena celebrated their day with activities throughout the day (04/10/2017)

The Council of Social Services held Tuesday, October 3, the Day of the Elders with a series of activities, such as the start of the program of hiking and the visit to the people of the municipality who could not participate in the events they had place in the afternoon.

The Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, was accompanying the group of elderly people who during the morning inaugurated the course of the hiking program with the historic route 'The legacy of the Enlightenment'.

Subsequently, the mayor visited three centenarians in their homes: Concepción Lorente, Ignacio Vidal and Carmen English.

The events continued in the afternoon with the reading of the manifesto for the International Day of Older People, at 5.30 pm, at the door of the Palace Hall, attended by the president of the Federation of Associations of Elderly People of Cartagena, Maria Beteta , the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, and the Councilor for the Quality of Life Area, Francisco Calderón.

Subsequently, around 18.00 hours, an event commemorating the elders was held in the Culture Hall of the Caja Mediterráneo Social Work.

The event honored Conchita Garcia Sainz de Andino, who turned 100 on March 31, and Jose Velasco Lorca, who will meet on the next day of Kings.

Maria Navarro Fernández, a member and member of the board of the Marfagones Mills Club, 98, was also recognized for her active and willful participation in more than 30 years in associative networks.

The work of volunteers from the Experience Box was also honored at this ceremony.

The program is organized by people who share their free time, their knowledge and skills with other seniors through courses and workshops in a totally altruistic way.

Pedro Garcia Romero, Josefina Irigoyen, Francisca Ruiz Pérez and Ana Rós took the stage to receive this recognition, and Jose Antonio Perez, Encarnación Castillejo, Jana García, Carmen Colón, Virtudes Fernández and Joaquín Fernandez were mentioned, who were not able to attend the event .

Then the oldest members of the hiking club and the Cultural Volunteers Association are honored.

The act was closed by the Liga Musical Cartagonova, whose director, Jaime Belda Cantavella, handed a plaque.
