More than 300 swimmers will meet on October 8th in the 4th International Autumn Cross-country swim at Timon Cup (26/09/2017)

The surroundings of the lighthouse of Cabo de Palos and the beach of Levante will stage next October 8 of the fourth edition of the International Crossing of autumn to swim 'Timon Cup', which will meet more than 300 swimmers.

This has been announced this Tuesday, September 26, the Councilor of Sports of Cartagena, Ricardo Segado.

In the presentation of the test has been accompanied by the president of the Master Swimming Club Murcia, María José Montesinos, and the technical director and coordinator of the test, Ricardo Quirós.

The sporting event, organized by the Murcia Master Swimming Club, the Neighborhood Association of Cabo de Palos and the Spanish Swimming Federation, will begin at 10.00 hours with a course of 3,500 meters and is the last stage of the Spanish Cup of Open Waters for the Absolute, Premáster and Master categories.

In addition, has highlighted the mayor of Sports, there will be an alternative circuit for swimming adapted with three categories.

As for the league of the Region of Murcia Open Water, it is the last test scoring in the categories Absolute and Master.

It is, in the words of Ricardo Segado quoting swimmers from other editions, "a beautiful setting of crystal clear waters where you can enjoy the marine landscape of posidonias and the richness of species of fish that the area possesses."

The event is part of the commitment to promote sports tourism developed by the Department of Sports in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, "with the purpose of boosting the coast of Cartagena in the off-season."

Thus, the City of Cartagena collaborates by putting at the disposal of the organization the necessary infrastructure and with the coordination of the Local Police and technicians of the Department of Sports.

For its part, María José Montesinos has expressed its gratitude to the City of Cartagena, the Autonomous Community and the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) for their collaboration in organizing this event and has ensured that the Timon Cup is one of the crossings to swim "more attractive" for the swimmer.

And it is that, he explained, "for the swimmer is exceptional swimming in a nature reserve, surrounding or out and admiring a lighthouse," while families and companions can enjoy the test "from above."

The technical director of the test will consist of a preliminary warm-up on the Levante beach and, from there, a neutralized exit will be made from the pantars of the port of Cabo de Palos.

Neoprene is not allowed as it is prohibited when the waters have a temperature above 18 degrees and are expected to be around 23º or 24º C.

The arrival will be in the water to avoid that with the change of position occur dizziness, by which the judges will control the entrance in goal from the water.

The trophies will be held this year by the association Prolam.

An alternative route has been designed to be able to carry out the test in case the wind and the weather did not allow to do the designed one.

Regarding the dangers involved in the test, Quirós has assured that "they are few", although care must be taken with jellyfish and currents, in case there is a strong wind.

In addition, there will be three support boats with jet skis, provided by the Nautical Club of Cabo de Palos.

The registration period, Montesinos recalled, is open until next Wednesday, September 4, on the website Crono 3.
