Cs Cartagena will ask in the next Plenary a plan to improve road safety in the municipality (13/09/2017)

- "There are areas close to schools, parks or courts, where the pedestrian crossing is not visible or directly does not exist, the economic cost to correctly mark these steps is minimal and a solution is needed as soon as possible so you do not have to regret no misfortune, "said the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín

Citizens (Cs) Cartagena will ask at the next plenary session that the Government design a plan for improving safety and visibility in pedestrian crossings, updating vertical signage and for regulating the municipality's badges, "at this stage of the legislature it is not possible to carry out major street remodeling operations, so we consider that we should focus on those aspects that are not excessively expensive but can represent important improvements in road safety in the urban environment for both people and vehicles "explains the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

The mayor of the orange formation has denounced that there are "areas of the municipality close to schools, parks or courts, where the pedestrian crossing is not visible or directly does not exist, these deficiencies are even greater when you move away from the center of the city and you enter the neighborhoods, such as San Antón or San Gines, and in the councils "and has indicated that" the economic cost to correctly mark these steps is minimal and a solution is necessary as soon as possible to not have to regret no misfortune ".

Citizens believe that despite the fact that in recent years concrete actions have been taken, such as lighting pedestrian crossings in the Santa Ana Polygon, or Aparecida, Los Beatos, and Puebla, is clearly insufficient, "we need a detailed study of our needs at the municipal level, and prioritize the work ".

"We know that the City Council is gradually implementing a strategic plan for sustainable urban mobility, called 'M17', which includes the installation of traffic lights and smart pedestrian crossings, but we believe that this project is slowly heating up and what we we ask can not wait any longer, and require a map of needs prior ".

The orange training will propose that the Government, in collaboration with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters and the Local Police, design a preliminary study on the visibility and safety of pedestrian crossings and the state of vertical signaling.

On the other hand, and based on the results of that study, Cs will ask for a prioritized plan to optimize the maintenance of road signs and vertical signs, remove barriers to pedestrian crossing that reduce visibility (parked cars, containers, etc.), increase night visibility in pedestrian crossings, especially in interurban areas, the installation of bollards to avoid parking in the previous sidewalk recesses, improve the technical quality of horizontal and vertical signaling of reinforcing the painting or adding reflective elements that avoid the need to install light elements, and carrying out publicity campaigns in the Cartagena City Hall to inform, educate and educate both pedestrians and drivers to understand the importance and respect that a pedestrian crossing deserves.

As for the badenes, the orange formation will request an impact study of the installation of speed bumps to reduce speed in different areas of the city, "we will require the Government team to make an inventory of speed reducers in the municipality with specification of its morphology as well as the formulation of a municipal ordinance for speed reducers according to regulations, "Padín reported.
