Each district will have an allocation in the Participatory Budgets of 2018 (11/09/2017)

The citizens of Cartagena can decide which projects will be allocated 2 million euros in the Participatory Budgets of 2018, which in this second time will allocate a quantity to each of the seven districts in which the municipality is divided, so that they will be executed investments in all of them.

The amount allocated to this participative initiative is increased by half a million, approximately, compared to the previous year, corresponding to this 2017, when the pilot experience has been produced with a positive balance.

These two decisions have been some of the measures that have been decided at the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Participatory Budgets of 2017, has been chaired by the Councilor for Transparency and Good Governance and Participation, Juan Pedro Torralba, and they have the Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, Councilor for the Treasury and Interior, Francisco Aznar, the Councilor for Finance, Isabel García, and other members of the Corporation such as María Teodora Guillén, Manuel Padín and Pilar Marcos, as well as technicians of the councils that intervene.

The meeting reviewed the state of execution of the projects that the citizens voted in February, which are already running in different phases.

Likewise, the proposal for actions for the 2018 financial year has been made and a discussion has been made on how they will be developed.

On the other hand, it has been agreed that a fairer distribution of the money to be used per district will be made, and the information and outreach campaigns of the initiative will be expanded and a proposal prioritization phase will be included.

On this occasion the interventions will have a cost limit of 75,000 euros so that in each district can be executed between three and four infrastructures of the minimum capital to be allocated to each according to their number of inhabitants and other parameters.

December 21 is the date that has been designated in principle to know what actions have been assigned, and will previously go through a process of proposal initiatives, selection and debate to finally put them to a vote.

This year is intended to increase participation and therefore has involved the seven districts and will try to provide more time.

"We are very convinced that it is necessary to generate that muscle that had the associations of neighbors and that was lost", commented Juan Pedro Torralba.

The Councilor for Finance, Isabel Garcia, expressed her satisfaction at the continuity of this experience and stressed that some aspects that were improved have been corrected.

According to Juan Pedro Torralba, the intention of the Government team is to continue to implement improvements, including the proposals submitted to them by the political groups, which has not been included in the process of this exercise, but which can be added to January or February next year, when we start working on the budgets of 2019. "We will integrate them also because they seem to us good initiatives," said the mayor of Participation.

The Department of Decentralization, in collaboration with the CPD, is finalizing a web page of participatory budgets that, along with the details of them, will shortly present the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.
