The IV Sentinel Route will again warn Anibal's troops that Scipion is approaching. The funds raised for participation in this non-competitive race and for sponsorship will go to the organization of a seminar on sport and diabetes and the research (05/09/2017)

On the day of the Battle of the festivities of Carthaginians and Romans will once again have an added incentive: the IV Route of the Sentinels.

This race of ultra-fund, whose route will be 98 kilometers in this year's edition, aims to raise awareness about diabetes as well as encourage people suffering from this condition to practice sport while exercising as one of multiple recreations of the festive week.

The Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, and the president of the Society of Diabetics of Cartagena and Comarca (SODICAR), María Dolores García, presented on Tuesday this non-competitive race organized by the non-profit entity with the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena through the Department of Sports and Tourism, the project 'Diabetes No Fear', the Diabetes Association of Torrevieja (Transdiabetes) and the Federation of Troops and Legions.

Mowed has not missed the opportunity to thank Sodicar "the work he has done for many years in Cartagena to help people with diabetes and especially the importance of sports to improve this disease, giving visibility with this type of acts ".

The march, which will start at 3:00 p.m. on September 22 from Torrevieja and expects to reach the Punic Wall of Cartagena in 14 hours and about 17:30 hours, runs through the main Iberian and Phoenician settlements of the coast of southeast of Spain to recreate the possible route followed by the sentinels who would once see arrive at the army led by Publio Cornelio Scipio 'El Africano' to warn that he was heading for Qart Hadast, passing through the salt flats, the mouth of the Segura river , the settlements of La Fonteta, Cabezo del Tinio or Cerro Lucero and following Via Heraklea and Via Augusta.

The 4th Route of the Sentinels will also cross the towns of Torrevieja, Guardamar del Segura, Rojales, Benijófar, Los Montesinos, San Miguel de Salinas, Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Torre Pacheco and Cartagena.

Likewise, its route will be passed by the municipalities of each of these municipalities in order to give visibility to the fight against diabetes.

When it is a non-competitive test, all those who want to participate can do so from the kilometer point they want and accompany the 'sentinel' in the march during the time and distance they deem appropriate.

To register you only have to buy a Diabetes Cero T-shirt, at a cost of 5 euros, by calling the telephone number 968 52 90 14. You can also collaborate by 'buying' - or sponsoring - kilometers and towers or landmarks;

in the first case can be done for 10 euros, and in the second for 200 euros.

As indicated by the president of Sodicar, several of the municipalities of the municipalities that host the race are already collaborating through the second option.

In total there are 12 towers available.

The funds raised will go to the organization of a seminar on diabetes and sport and also the Diabetes Zero movement, which is fighting for research to find a cure for this disease.

"People who have diabetes are the ones we want them to be formed and prepared," explained María Dolores Garcia, as specified by those who suffer from this disease have added difficulties in practicing sports since they must take into account and control many parameters, and is that when someone wants to do physical exercise "know how to do it safely."

On the other hand, the president of Sodicar has indicated that this type of donations are reduced by 75%.

This year's 'sentinel' is Javier Nieto, a Cartagena-based Torrevieja who has had diabetes for 16 years.

He will be in charge of traveling the 98 kilometers that separate the city that now welcomes him from his hometown emulating, through an exceptional environment, the gesta of the Punic lookouts of the war against Rome that was decisive in the history of the West, a feat at once comparable to that of that Greek soldier, Filipides, who marched down to Sparta, according to some sources, or to Athens, according to others, to warn of the victory over the Persians in the battle of the plain of Marathon.
