Cartagena Port of Cultures offers an intense program to celebrate the international declaration of Carthaginians and Romans (04/09/2017)

The Museum of the Roman Theater, the Forum Quarter, the House of Fortune and the Punic Wall join in celebrating the recent declaration of the Carthaginian and Roman holidays of International Tourist Interest.

"Cartagena Puerto de Culturas has prepared an intense program specially dedicated to discover this episode of our history with numerous activities in museums and sites, for adults and children, with the aim of enjoying the Roman and Carthaginian vestiges that illuminate ancient scenarios. initiative we support the recent declaration of International Tourist Interest, "explained the mayor and president of Cartagena Port of Cultures, Ana Belén Castejón.

Cartagena Puerto de Culturas will hold a day of open doors on Friday 22 September in all museums and sites of the city including the Roman Theater, Punic Wall, House of Fortune, Refuge-Civil War Museum, Roman Forum, Augusteum, Castillo de la Concepción and Fuerte de Navidad which will be open at regular hours and can be visited free of charge.

In addition, throughout this week of festivals, free access to these museums and sites will be allowed to the festivities dressed in their Carthaginian or Roman costume.

THE FORUM AND THEATER ARE OPEN TO THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE IN FESTERAS ACTIVITIES

"As a novelty, this year on Thursday 21 will allow free access to the Roman Forum or the Roman Theater, to all those who participate in the activities of the festivity of Carthaginians and Romans.This way we collaborate with the Federation of Troops and Legions boosting daytime activities and those dedicated to the smallest, in which they have put special emphasis this year. From the City Council we have also increased the municipal subsidy and continue working on other forms of collaboration, "said Castejón.

On the other hand, a program of special activities for the celebration of the holidays has been specially prepared.

Asterix and the Roman insane in the Punic Wall.

Theatrical Gymkhana Asterix, the small Gallic warrior, has reached the Punic Wall on his journey to Hispania, in search of his magic potion that the Carthaginians possessed in the sacred forest.

Asterix needs little helpers to unlock the secret of how the Roman lunatics conquered Carthago Nova, by land and sea.

For this, the little ones will have to decipher the code of Caesar, practice the archery and a thousand adventures that will take to play a crazy game in a trivial giant that will give the answer of the magic potion of the superpowers.

Child activity

It is surprising how many games and entertainment the Romans practiced and, more surprisingly, how some of them have gone through history to this day.

Now the little ones will be able to discover and to play like the Roman children in the old one in the District of the Forum thanks to the fun activity, Ludi Romani.

They will amuse themselves with walnuts and amphorae, the game of tabas, dice, the three in line even experiment with the training of gladiators.

Theatrical visit

A Roman noblewoman will show her first-century dwelling in the splendor of Carthago Nova, where the houses were decorated with rich mosaics and beautiful paintings such as the Pompeian houses.

During the theatrical visit, the lady of the domus will show the most important rooms, hall, dining room, bedrooms, office and the place of worship where the whole family, the larario, met.

It will revive the rituals and customs of a Roman citizen and will discover the reason for the name that so fortunately is known the only complete house visitable Cartagena.

Family activity

This activity allows the participants to know the most relevant events of the Second Punic War and its protagonists, Hannibal and Scipio, as well as one of the most emblematic buildings of the city, the Roman theater, which was erected during the time of Augustus.

Thus, the children will be part of a troop or a legion and celebrate the triumph in the Roman Theater of Cartagena, dressed in clothing of the era that will be given to participants in the same museum.

Guided tour

A special route designed to understand the epic history between Carthaginians and Romans where the city of Cartagena was the decisive stage of the conquests of the two most powerful peoples of the Mediterranean.

This route brings us closer to the founding of the Carthaginian city and we will discover how was the conquest of Rome in the Punic Wall.

We will continue through the House of Fortune to see the houses of the first century decorated with paintings and mosaics, to finally go to the Roman Theater and contemplate the splendor of an era.

Route: Punic Wall, Forum Neighborhood and Roman Theater Museum.
