The local and regional administrations will try to solve the viability of the Speed Circuit (28/08/2017)

The Cartagena Speed Circuit will try to find local and regional administration a way to channel its viability.

The Councilor for Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, the Minister of Culture, Education and Environment, Javier Celdrán, and the president of the entity that manages this space, José Miguel Martínez, met on Monday at the facilities to discuss the issues Relating to their needs.

As explained by the counselor, this is a sector that moves approximately 7,000 pilots each year, with 28,000 overnight stays and leaves in the Region about 10 million euros.

The average expenditure of the tourist multiplies by five to the other types of visitor, like the one of sun and beach, and grows 25% each exercise.

It is a type of international tourist in 95%, made up of English, German and Dutch visitors, among other nationalities.

It should be noted that this type of tourism comes in winter season, given that the weather conditions of their respective countries prevent the practice of motor sports in their circuits, so they seek better enclaves such as here, which helps to seasonalise the offer.

In addition, to this is added the cultural and gastronomic offer of the area.

The mayor of Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, has also surbayado this detail, and added that "is also a shock to the whole region."

He also commented that the needs that afflict the circuit come from "a dragged situation, which comes from the past", specifically from the time of crisis, which is what makes its viability.

"From the City Hall we are ready to do everything possible and everything in our power to make it viable," said Gómez, who has also announced that the municipal executive will split the IBI payment as a measure to facilitate its Economic relief.

Likewise, he indicated that they will look for ways to help boost the promotion, activity and those needs that the Government team can contribute to alleviate.

"Speed is one of the specific segments of sports tourism for which we will bet from the regional government," said the counselor.

"It is the proposal for which we want to diversify and increase the number of tourists," added Celdrán, who has been willing to sit down with the managers of the company that manages the circuit to learn more about their needs and possible Ways of collaboration and promotion of tourism that can be explored.

In particular he has advocated "working to establish a collaborative mechanism that goes beyond the grant".

The president of the company that manages the circuit has recalled that it has "generated" since the opening of "100 million to the Region of Murcia" and that "the work movement is constant."

On the other hand, it has also pointed out that it is precisely when the demand in the hospitality sector declines when the activity in the circuit increases, which contributes to this diversification and the deseasonalization of tourism.

According to Martínez, what they are asking for is "a small help to make the circuit viable", it continues to increase and the level of overnight stays, hotel occupations, restaurants, as well as the impact on image can be maintained.

Martinez has acknowledged that the situation is complicated, since the crisis was well tolerated, but now they need to refinance the loans.

The president figures this aid in about 250,000 euros, about 100,000 a year.

On the other hand, it has also announced that Curve 13 will be renamed '12 +1 Ángel Nieto 'in honor of the renowned motorcycle rider who was present at the inauguration of the circuit in 1994.

He also recalled that Michael Schumacher had a fall in Curve 1 that was news worldwide, that Sebastian Vettel went on the circuit after being world champion, and that the late Luis Salom and the sons of Sito Pons came here In winter every year.
