More than 300 students will participate in the International Summer Campus of UPCT (31/07/2017)

More than 300 students will participate this August in the International Summer Campus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), which in its first edition has an offer of 25 courses on various topics such as languages ​​or new technologies and social networks.

This has been presented this Monday, July 31, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;

The rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo;

The Minister of Employment and Universities, Juan Hernández;

And the president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Funcarele Foundation, Miguel Martínez.

Specifically, 320 students will pass through the UPCT facilities in the former Maritime Instruction Headquarters (CIM) with a program that will include activities around the archaeological heritage of the city and sports activities, which has considered the Mayor as a "very important" bet.

And is that, the campus will offer students, during the month of August, training and leisure.

At the same time, he wanted the courses to make August an "apasionate" month and that "in September we can value this project very positively".

For its part, the UPCT has assured that this campus is "a commitment to offer leisure activities, training and cultural outreach" and has been convinced of the importance of this summer campus, which encourages Cartagena and its Polytechnic University "enter the circuit of cities that in the month of August bet on offering their visitors and citizens a set of activities that combine training and leisure activities, such as nautical and cultural activities.

In this sense, he explained, this initiative "will make us gain visibility".

And is that, has been convinced that the International Summer Campus of the UPCT will help people who participate in the courses, when they return to their places of residence, remember the city and the university, and talk about them.

The Minister of Employment and Universities has ensured that this International Campus will serve to establish the UPCT as "a reference university at a national level", although, as he stressed, "it is already because of the quality of the training given in its Classrooms and by the degree of labor insertion of the students who study their studies in this university ".

In this way, he has described the initiative as "one more step to continue advancing in the quality of this magnificent institution", while thanking the Funcarele Foundation for its commitment to launch this project that combines training and education with leisure in Courses of two weeks duration.

Thus, the counselor pointed out, students will contribute to boost the local economy "by moving tourism and leaving money in restaurants and businesses in the city," while at the same time, when returning to their places of origin, "they have discovered a Of the most important cities of Spain and at European level for its historical heritage and its archaeological heritage ".

Therefore, it has shown the commitment of the regional government to the university to continue with this project and "to become a national benchmark."

Finally, Miguel Martínez has assured that "all the ingredients are" for the International Summer Campus to be projected at local, regional and international level.

And is that, has ensured that the project has institutional support, so he has expressed his gratitude to the Polytechnic University, the regional government and the City of Cartagena.

In addition, he has assured that the Mediterranean Sea is a differentiating element, reason why the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena has an important weight in the Campus, when offering diving courses, regattas and other activities.

Thus, he emphasized the importance of this initiative, which will serve to "project the UPCT" and has wanted it to become a benchmark as the courses in Santander of the Menéndez Pelayo University, those of the University of Zaragoza in Jaca, or those of the Complutense in El Escorial.
