The Community wants Cartagena to become a focus of academic attraction both in the regular course and during the summer.

Juan Hernández, during the inauguration of the first International Summer Campus of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), emphasized today "the new training offer that combines academic excellence with leisure, especially That linked to the sea, given the excellent weather conditions and the privileged geographical location of the city.

The adviser said that "we can not afford to miss the opportunities offered by the climate, the gastronomy and the luxury of having one of the four Polytechnic Universities of Spain."

The UPCT, the Foundation for the Teaching of Spanish Language and Culture (Funcarele) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University share this initiative with a strong international character, which aims to make the city known and its attractive cultural and educational proposal.

In total, 25 courses are offered, with special emphasis on language training (English for Spanish and Spanish for foreigners), scientific dissemination (underwater archeology), technology (with an emphasis on ICT technologies) and business. Oratory, corporate internationalization, marketing, trends, 'big data', 'smart cities', 'design thinking', Chinese ink, female personal defense or introduction to underwater archeology.

As for leisure, the sea will be the main protagonist of the activities organized by the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena, although there will also be space for cultural workshops such as theater. Activities include baptisms and courses of dive and sailing, departures in 'Dragon boat', kayaking routes through the coves, snorkel and a campus of actors.

Hernández stressed "the importance of training tourism, not forgetting the technological side of this university, which can and should become a hallmark of summer courses in Spain, combining technical training with maritime leisure so close to our university."

Likewise, the director recalled "the determined commitment of the regional government by the public universities of the Region, reflected in the multi-annual funding plan, which provides more than 1 billion to public universities, regional funding above the national average" .
