- Luis Fernández: "We are talking about undertaking a comprehensive and planned action that touches municipal, autonomous and state powers, and that necessarily requires a common strategy between administrations and an important social and political pressure to prioritize the solution of these problems."

The Parliamentary Group of Citizens received yesterday in its dependencies of the Regional Assembly to several local representatives and the AMPA of the cartagenera de El Llano council to plan a legislative strategy that responds to the problems that have been accumulating in this zone of mining past Over the years and that is leading them to "a serious deterioration in the social, economic, environmental and health," according to neighbors, who demand important actions in the short, medium and long term by the Competent administrations because otherwise, they say, they will be focused on insecurity and irreversible decline in their quality of life both individually and collectively.

The regional deputy of the orange formation, Luis Fernandez, and the spokesman of the Municipal Group in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, were present at the meeting.

According to Luis Fernández, "we are talking about undertaking a comprehensive and planned action that touches municipal, autonomous and state powers, and that necessarily requires a common strategy between administrations and sufficient social pressure to prioritize the solution of these problems on the agenda of the Government regional".

"For our part, they can count on all our support and help to create that necessary space of cooperation and political and technical coordination to design a roadmap for the recovery of this emblematic area of Cartagena," said Fernandez.

According to the neighbors, the most prevalent need is to resolve heavy metal contamination in the school soil and have ensured that mobilizations take place in September and do not undertake the first preventive work to remove contaminated soil.

In this sense, Luis Fernández said that "we will push from our Parliamentary Group to the Community so that children can start the school course normally, in conditions of optimal hygiene and safety."

On the other hand, the municipal spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has ensured that a parliamentary delegation of the orange formation will visit this council in a short time to know their needs on the ground, "we want our colleagues in the Assembly to know the Neighbors, and tread this land that was exploited by the mining industry and then abandon it to their fate with the consent of those who govern, it is time to pay that debt that we have with them.

Diagnosis of needs

On the other hand, the neighbors presented to Citizens the document base that they have elaborated on the main problems of the deputation, among them, the criminal abandonment of the public authorities after years of mining operations, which has allowed that the ramblas continue trailing mining residues .

In terms of economic and sociological aspects, they warn of the continued regression and aging of the population, the loss of almost all commercial life in the area, the high unemployment rate among the resident population, increased failure and school absenteeism, And the proliferation of drug outlets.

In terms of Infrastructures, the document analyzes that the layout of the FEVE divides El Beal into two, and that it has to be modified so that the tunnel can be eliminated from the Main Street.

In addition, they consider it necessary to design a bypass that facilitates the urban integration of the three existing population centers, El Beal, Llano del Beal, and San Ginés Strait.

The document also refers to the General Urban Plan of Cartagena (PGOU) that prevents the development of populations as it was tailor-made for the old mining activity, and considered to be a factor that hinders the normal growth of the people As young people choose homes in nearby towns where they can access new housing.

According to the neighbors, there is no public floor to meet the prevailing need for equipment.

On the other hand, they demand the protection and enhancement of the cultural heritage of the deputation and the inclusion of these elements in routes and tourist circuits, among them, Cueva Victoria, Monastery of San Ginés, Mina Matilde, Mina Blanca, El Lirio, deposits Miners, House of the People, Red Cross, Casino, Miner's Monument, La Cabaña, houses of the early twentieth century of brick seen and the Ventura Mine Furnace, among others.
