Saint Lucia remembers the arrival of Santiago to Spain on the feast day of the saint (26/07/2017)

Tradition tells us that the Gospel, and with it Christianity, entered Spain through Cartagena.

More concretely by the beaches of what today is the fishing port of the district of Santa Lucía.

After the death and resurrection of Christ, the disciples disintegrated the world to preach his word and so the apostle, who would later become the landlord of the 'bullskin' country, chose these lands to carry out his mission.

That is why the traditional district of St. Lucia on Tuesday honored Santiago with a maritime-terrestrial procession that recreated the arrival of the Apostle to what was then known as Carthago Nova, one of the main cities of Roman Hispania.

The acts counted on the presence of the councilor delegate of Hacienda, Isabel Garci'a.

The image of the saint departed from the dock of the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena in a rowboat, accompanied by a number of boats, until arriving at the place where his landing is commemorated, next to the statue in his honor and the great cross.

There the party was waiting for him to travel, by land, the streets of the neighborhood led by a group of portapasos women, until arriving at the church that bears his name, where the solemn mass was celebrated that closed the liturgical celebrations of this festival.
