The Summer School for Homeless and Transients, organized by the Department of Social Services for 20 people in a situation of social exclusion, has opened its doors on Monday, July 17.
For this reason, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, have moved to the building La Milagrosa, where the school's headquarters is located, to accompany the participants in the inauguration of this Week in which they will realize diverse workshops, tourist visits and they will bathe in swimming pool.
The Summer School, which celebrates its 2017 second edition, will run until Friday 21. Thus, every day the day will begin at 8.45 with a healthy breakfast.
This Monday, during the presentation of the school, the mayor has shown her pride in the implementation of this initiative and has wanted the 20 students who enjoy the activities and take advantage of the opportunity that has been offered.
For her part, Carmen Martín thanked the organizations and associations that work in the accompaniment of the homeless and in their own inclusion and who collaborate in the implementation of this Summer School, such as the Meeting and Reception Center ( CEA) The Huertecica, Accem, Caritas Cartagena, Hospitality of Santa Teresa, the Program of Transients and Homeless People of the Department of Social Services, Apices, Agency for Local Development and Employment (ADLE), Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, UPCT and Red Cross.
This Monday, a percussion workshop is scheduled, after which there will be a corporal expression workshop, which will end at 12.00 and on Tuesday, after breakfast, there will be two craft workshops, one from 9.30-11.00 and another 11.00 a.m.
On Wednesday, participants will visit the 'modernist Cartagena' and stroll through the sports facilities of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).
To finish the activities of this day, you will enjoy a swim in the pool of the UPCT, from 12.30 to 14.00 hours.
On Thursday 20 there will be a workshop of first aid and home accidents and, in addition, another of healthy food with gastronomic tasting.
On Friday, to finish the Summer School, they will realize the cultural visit in the tourist boat of Cartagena Port of Cultures.
At 12.00 hours, this second edition will be closed.
"The purpose of this school is that homeless people are in the same space and establish standardized relationships and relationships among them, while learning hygiene habits, food and schedules," said the Councilor for Social Services, who Has highlighted the importance of leisure for people in situations of social exclusion.
