The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, have welcomed the twenty or so Saharawi children who are welcomed during the two summer months by families in Cartagena.

Thus, Castejón has taken the opportunity to welcome them to the port city and to thank the Sahrawi Smiles Association for launching the 'Holidays in Peace' program, which allows these children to spend their summer vacations in Cartagena.

The children are welcomed by families from the municipality who voluntarily participate in the program.

Thus, during the two months of stay of these children, activities such as cultural visits or excursions to the beach are programmed, as well as several medical checks that allow to check the health status of the children.

The Region of Murcia hosts this year more than 90 children from the Sahara, of which almost 20 have settled in Cartagena.

During the meeting, a girl benefiting from the program has shown the gratitude of all the children who have arrived in the port city this summer for the work done by the Municipal Corporation to help their families and has called for a greater commitment to this type of programs That allow the little ones to enjoy the summer vacations in Cartagena.

In turn, a representative mother of the families, Johana Candela González, recalled the small difficulties that had to overcome at the beginning of her stay due to language problems and lack of confidence, but she assured that this project is "wonderful ".

He emphasized the importance of recognizing and living the diversity of beliefs, cultures and habits, as well as living with other cultures.
