The Byzantine Wall hosts the exhibition 'The Brick' by Patrick Hamilton, framed within the program of The Sea of Music, which offers a reflection on the concepts of work, inequality, myth and history in the context of the stage of The post-dictatorship in Chile, where the author originated.

The show combines photography and sculpture and, as explained by the mayor of Culture, David Martinez, in the presentation of the exhibition that took place this Wednesday, July 12, uses construction materials "converted into works of art and highlighting what Which surrounds the real estate market. "

In turn, the councilman has assured that "it is lucky" that Patrick Hamilton lives and works in Madrid, which has allowed him to be present in the presentation of this Wednesday.

His work is influenced by the Chilean social, political and cultural context of the last years, since he lived the dictatorship in his childhood and already democracy from adolescence.

For his part, Hamilton has emphasized that he uses materials that have to do with the labor and construction sector due to his interest in "questioning certain aspects of the economic development models we have lived in the last years in the world."

This exhibition, in particular, is based on a book of political economy titled 'The Brick' written in the early 1970s.

Thus, he explained, from the book and his own research as an artist, Hamilton developed the sculptures and photographs that constitute 'The Brick'.

He has highlighted a series of sculptures in copper replicas of objects placed in the steering wheel of cars to protect them and prevent them from being stolen.

On the other hand, it has pointed out that copper is "the most important element of the Chilean economy, since it represents 33% of Chile's exports" although "it has a controversial history."

As for the photographs, the author has described them as "still lifes" made with tools or postcards, placed on the perforated wood used in carpentry.

"They are allegories and metaphors of social, cultural and economic situations that happen in my country but are extrapolable to other contexts such as Spanish," he concluded.

The exhibition, which will be open to the public until Thursday, August 31, can be visited at the Museum of the Byzantine Wall from 9.30 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 7.30 pm from Tuesday to Friday and from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturdays And Sundays.
