The Community and the City of Cartagena will work to increase cruise costs in the city (06/07/2017)

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, held a meeting today with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, in which they agreed to implement a common strategy to increase the cost of cruise passengers in the city and increase the Wealth and employment, taking advantage of the work done by the Port Authority to attract more cruises every day.

In particular, technical staff of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia and Puertos de Culturas will study formulas to improve the tourism and hospitality of the port city specialized in the cruise traveler, highlighting its rich heritage as an attraction to facilitate More spending on bars, restaurants and shops.

"We want cruise passengers, on their scale in Cartagena, to have a tourist, gastronomic and shopping offer more in line with their needs and adjusted to the period of their stay in the city," said Celdrán.

Specifically, a complete profile of this tourist will be developed that will be offered to innkeepers and merchants so that they know their demands, what they are looking for and how to be able to make their stay in Cartagena more satisfactory, as well as increase their expense by finding products that are appropriate to their needs .

"We will innovate to make them find in Cartagena the tourist, gastronomic and shopping experience they seek and their disbursement in the city is greater," said the head of Tourism.

Another common aspect of work between the Community and the City of Cartagena is the promotion of diving tourism, with Cabo de Palos as one of the main claims of the Costa Cálida.

Thus, in addition to a more intense promotional work to raise awareness of the rich natural heritage of the Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas reserve and attract more visitors, we want to combine with an alternative offer for these travelers with other experiences, such as Gastronomic or those related to the visit and stay in Cartagena to know its heritage.

The meeting also addressed further work on the value of heritage, with the Roman Theater and Museum as an example of successful experience of collaboration between administrations and other bodies, such as the CajaMurcia foundation.

The councilor and the mayor were placed for new meetings to advance in these and other actions.

Both parties highlighted the work of recovery of the Mar Menor and the activities scheduled by the Community this summer in cultural matters, such as 'MiMarMenor3.30' and the environmental awareness campaign 'Naturally, Mar Menor', as well as the launching by the City Hall, like 'Hi summer'.

The meeting was also used to highlight the importance of the Carthaginian and Roman Festivals, which have been declared of International Tourist Interest, as well as the Holy Week of Cartagena, which has the same consideration.
