UPCT students who make an autonomous port inspection submarine to explain their project in Silicon Valley (22/06/2017)

The students of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) David Mateos Carrillo and Alfonso García Marín, of the startup SIRENA that constructs an unmanned submarine for the inspection and control of low cost and risk in port areas, have obtained a place to travel to Silicon Valley together with the 51 best young entrepreneurs of the VIII edition of Santander YUZZ, the entrepreneurship program promoted by Santander Santander through Santander Universities and coordinated by the Santander International Entrepreneurship Center (CISE) with the collaboration of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).

The Integrated Autonomous Naval Exploration and Reconnaissance System (SIRENA) has won the Yuzz local final and has also been distinguished as the most technologically disruptive.

For its part, the Literary Tourism project, a website with writer-museum routes, has won the Yuzz Mujer local award and second place.

In third position, Captualy, a tool of control of agri-food commodities and productive processes.

The startup SIRENA comes from the association of students of the same name, chaired by David Mateos, and in which UPCT students have promoted the creation of an autonomous solar submarine.

The future company intends to serve port authorities, starting with Cartagena, avoiding risks for divers and providing greater mobility than unmanned submarines with wiring.

The Literary Tourism project, by Vanessa Martínez, pretends to replace the absence of webs in Spanish specialized in the activities, routes and houses-museum on this subject.

Among the other projects, several were focused on the educational field, such as the one that wants to market toys that interact with mobile devices through virtual reality, allowing children to take care of virtual pets or solve puzzles, or virtual video educational platform.

Business-to-business shared skateboards to promote sustainable mobility is another idea developed by UPCT yuzzers, who also intend to create a video game studio in Cartagena, a search engine for companies not well positioned on the Internet, a system Control of stored products at home to reduce food waste or an application of architectural routes by unique buildings.

Ecological fertilizers from brine, an application to manage natural environments involving the user and an alternative care center to conventional medicine are other projects that have been developed in this edition of Yuzz at the Polytechnic of Cartagena.
