The Luzzy opens this afternoon an exhibition of drawing and painting on the cartagenero cypress (15/05/2017)

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, will inaugurate this afternoon at the Cultural Center Ramón Alonso Luzzy an exhibition of drawings and punctures on the cypress Cartagena.

This is a selection of the works presented to the 1st Tetraclinis Competition, organized by the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE), within the European project LIFE + Tetraclinis Europa LIFE13 NAT / ES / 000436, with the aim of disseminating Plastic arts the protection and recovery of this singular species and its habitat of little representation in our latitudes.

The opening will take place at 19 hours.

The contest was open to adults and minors, the latter through educational centers or youth associations.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until Friday, May 19, when prizes will be awarded to the winners, elected by a jury vote and a popular vote.

Sabina mora, Cartagena cypress or Tetraclinis articulata is an Iberian-North African tree that is distributed mainly by Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Malta and reaches the coasts of the Iberian southeast (Cartagena, La Unión) as the only European locality.

In our Region is located from the vicinity of Cabo de Palos to those of Cartagena, presenting its best populations in the Peña del Aguila and Sabinar.

The forests of Tetraclinis articulata are a very rare and priority habitat of Community interest according to the Habitats Directive (European Law for the protection of nature).

The presence of this species has forced the declaration of Places of Community Importance for inclusion in the Natura 2000 Network (European protected areas) of much of the coast of the Region of Murcia.
