UPCT and the main agricultural technology companies of the Region launch the AgritechMurcia Chair (15/05/2017)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and 14 technological companies from the Region have created the AgritechMurcia chair to promote joint research and technology transfer between university and business and train university students in the latest agricultural technologies.

The AgritechMurcia platform groups technological companies from the Region of Murcia and research centers that, with the support of the Autonomous Administration, offer comprehensive, flexible and efficient solutions to farmers around the world.

"We make our farms more profitable and we are increasingly asking for integral and accompanying projects, for which we need to bring highly qualified technicians and train local employees," said Javier Huete, representative of the group of companies that make up Agritech.

"We will have a more professional international projection thanks to the Chair," he added.

On the other hand, the Minister of Employment, Enterprise and Universities, Juan Hernández, highlighted during the presentation of the Chair the new training needs that require a labor market that "has changed irreversibly.

If we used to change only a couple of times in the whole working life, we will now do it on average 15 times and the percentage of fixed employment has risen from 90% to 50% worldwide ", he has exemplified.

Hernández has also praised the competitiveness of irrigation technology produced in the Region of Murcia, which accounts for 20% of national exports in the sector.

To boost its growth has stated that "we need the best professionals and the connection between the Company and the University as a strategic launch."

The companies that integrate AgritechMurcia are: Azud, Fyton, Hidroponic Systems, ICL-Fertilizer Sources, Industries David, J. Huete, Agricultural News, Nutricontrol, OTK, Prakor, Ritec, Rufepa and Solplast.

The Vice-rector of Innovation and Enterprise, Alejandro Pérez Pastor, has pointed out that the agricultural model of the Region of Murcia is an international benchmark that competes in the most demanding markets.

"The joint work and collaboration of companies such as the members of the AgritechMurcia platform and the main agricultural research centers of the Region (UPCT, Murcia Institute for Agricultural Research and Development and Food and the Center for Applied Biology and Edafology of Segura, and The Institute of Development) form a powerful link of union that has developed during years an important work of diffusion and demonstration of our technology and good agricultural doing throughout the world ".

AgritechMurcia goes one step further in its vision of opportunities and progress towards new horizons integrating training within one of its priorities.

"With the creation of the AgritechMurcia-UPCT chair, the aim is to create a symbiosis of teaching, research and business environments, creating a teaching environment that will constitute an international reference in training in agricultural technology in Murcia," said Alejandro Pérez, Vice-Chancellor of Innovation and Company of the UPCT.

Likewise, the incorporation of this chair into the UPCT Chairs Network is a strategic point for the symbiosis with other Chairs, as well as increasing the return of the national and international professional world to the university, relying on the high level of diffusion and technologies of The information provided by the UPCT.
