MC demands the implementation of a Burn Unit in Cartagena (12/05/2017)

During the noon yesterday, we knew the explosion occurred in one of the boilers of a well-known refinery located in the Valley of Escombreras.

The blast occurred at one of the area's sulfur recovery plants, which is currently in maintenance shutdown.

Beyond complaining to those responsible responsible for the explanations before this incident, MC again raise his voice to demand one of the great shortcomings that the Region of Cartagena has in sanitary matters: a Burn Unit.

Thus, the Cartagena formation will request, during the next ordinary plenary session, that CARM initiate the necessary procedures and steps for the implementation, without further delay, of a Burn Unit in Cartagena, providing the necessary economic and material means.

In this regard, the Councilor for Health of the City of Cartagena and spokesman of the municipal group MC, Francisco Calderón, has welcomed the lack of "serious injuries and everything has been in a scare. MC claims that Cartagena must immediately have a Burn Unit and so we will move it in the next Plenary. "

"The Escombreras Valley, industrial pole of Spain, needs this unit in Cartagena without further delay," concluded the mayor.

MC regrets that events such as yesterday must occur to awaken the political consciences of those who must ensure the health of all the citizens of the Region.

Therefore, there are no more excuses covered by alleged economic limitations or other reasons.

The fact is that although it is accepted that the first hospital care can be initially carried out in the nearest center with adequate resources for the treatment of these patients, it is crucial that they be transferred as soon as possible to a center with a Burned, especially, in the following cases: Burns (second and third degree) of more than 20% of the body surface;

Third degree burns on more than 10% of body surface;

Children and the elderly;

Associated inhalation injuries;

Severe burns, and in cases of burns to the face, feet, hands and perineum.

Because of all this, and because the Valle de Escombreras is the undisputed regional industrial pole and one of the main ones of the country, the immediate implantation of a Unit of Burns in Cartagena becomes nonnegotiable.

The opposite would be an inadmissible act of political irresponsibility.
