AFIBROCAR delivers to the Municipal Government the Manifesto for the World Fibromyalgia Day (11/05/2017)

The mayor, José López, the deputy mayor, Ana Belén Castejón and the councilor of the Quality of Life area, Francisco Calderón, met this morning in the Palace Hall with the president of the Association of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena And Comarca (AFIBROCAR), Remedios Romero, as well as other representatives of the board of directors of this entity.

Those responsible for AFIBROCAR have submitted to the mayor a dossier of activities, as well as the Manifesto commemorating the World Day of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which is celebrated tomorrow May 12.

The Manifesto will be read, from 12:00 hours, at the door of the Regional Assembly (Paseo Alfonso XIII, Cartagena), with the assistance of the first mayor and Francisco Calderón.

It should be noted that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the recognition of fibromyalgia as a disease by the World Health Organization.

FIBROMYALGIA AND CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME

Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects between 2 and 4% of the population, especially women.

It is characterized by generalized and chronic muscle pain, extreme fatigue that does not improve with rest and sleep disorders.

Patients with fibromyalgia often have other discomforts such as headache, numbness of the arms and legs, anxiety or dry eyes and mouth.

Because the affected do not present any alteration in the tissues or the cells, often the medical diagnosis is not the one of illness but of some problem of psychological origin.

On the other hand, chronic fatigue syndrome is a debilitating and complex disorder characterized by intense tiredness that does not improve with bed rest and can worsen with physical or mental effort.

AFIBROCAR

The Association of Fibromyalgia and Syndrome of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena and Region (AFIBROCAR), constituted in 2003, is integrated by fibromyalgia patients and chronic fatigue syndrome, in addition to their relatives, friends, collaborators and sympathizers.

It currently has more than three hundred members.

This association aims to guide, advise and inform patients in the legal, economic, social, psychological and medical fields.

To do this, they perform various outreach activities, partnerships between associations, yoga workshops, therapeutic dance or home visits.
