Cartagena celebrated during the weekend its Cruces de Mayo (08/05/2017)

The celebration of the Crosses of May filled Cartagena this weekend with thousands of people who took to the streets of the historic center and neighborhoods and councils to enjoy the various programmed activities and gastronomy.

In total, 48 crosses have been installed this year by different groups and local and, as a novelty, this year the City of Cartagena has installed one at the gates of the Palace Hall.

Specifically, there were 10 crosses installed by associations and 25 establishments in the center of Cartagena, as well as 13 in neighborhoods and councils.

Among those installed in the center were three of the brotherhoods of Holy Week, the Marraja, the California and the Resurrected, and the Brotherhood of Romeros de San Ginés de la Jara, which were located in their usual locations other years.

In addition, the federation of troops and legions and the Federation of Comparsas and Chirigotas of Cartagena Carnival also installed their own junctions of May, as well as the 'Association of residents of Cuatro Santos and Ramón y Cajal' and the Citizen Platform 'Cartagena Centro' .

The celebrations began on Friday afternoon at most of the altars installed and extended until Sunday, and propitiated the street life throughout the weekend of thousands of people, many of whom came dressed in the traditional costume Cartagenero or flamenco.

There were also a multitude of performances and concerts in the street, organized by the associations and bars in the framework of these celebrations.

For his part, the mayor of Cartagena, José López, was in charge of pronouncing the proclamation of exaltation of the municipal cross, in which the first mayor extolled this tradition of Cartagena roots.

The schedule has been cut in this year's edition, since the opening of the crosses was from 1.00 pm to 1.00 pm, while last year was from 12.00 to 2.00 hours, with the aim of facilitating the rest of the neighbors.

From 16.00 to 18.00 hours, in addition, the musical performances were not allowed and only ambient music could be heard in the installed crossings.
