The memories of Cartagena culture protagonists in the X Jornada de Pueblo Eldora (03/05/2017)

The X Jornada de Personas mayores, organized by the Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena and the Federation of Associations and Centers of Older Persons of Cartagena and Comarca (FCM), took place today, Wednesday, May 3, with the participation of About 200 members of the 42 senior clubs in the Shire.

This year, under the motto "Cartagena en el recuerdo", participants have known and remembered aspects of the Comarca's culture: legends, folklore, customs, streets, corners and traditions.

Ana Belén Castejón, Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco José Calderón, Councilor for Social Services, Mª del Carmen Martín and FCM president María Beteta participated in the inauguration of the conference.

The Deputy Mayor has highlighted the dynamism of the group of elderly in Cartagena, and wanted to congratulate the president of the federation for the initiatives she carries out and in particular for this meeting.

Regarding the presentations that followed the presentation, Castejón wanted to highlight the double purpose they have: on the one hand to make available to attendees a varied offer of training topics of interest and depth in society;

On the other, to convert them into transmitters of the Cartagena culture.

Among the papers he wanted to stop in which he has dealt with the history and sample of the thunder, and has made reference to the support that exists from the city council to the traditions of Cartagena, and especially to this one.

"A support that is made drawing this art from the schools to the participants of this meeting of older people" has indicated to denote that you want to reach as many people as possible.

After the inaugural ceremony, the following lectures have been given: "Leyendas del Campo de Cartagena", by José Sánchez Conesa, Official Chronicler of Cartagena;

"La Copla and Flamenco in Cartagena", by Benito Martínez, Journalist and Doctor in Information Sciences;

"La Cartagena Modernista 1900-1916", by Juan Ignacio Ferrández García, Official Chronicler of Cartagena;

And finally "Historia y Muestra del Trovo", by Juan José García Parra "Parranda", President of the Association Trovera José María Marín, which has been started with some trovos that have delighted the audience.

The Councilor for Social Services has closed the ceremony thanking the attendance of the participants and encouraged them to continue to participate so actively in all the events that are organized for this group.

After the closing, an appetizer has been offered to all who have come to the day.

The mayor, José López, has closed the event and encouraged those present to spread what has been told on the day and become transmitters of "our traditions."
