The choir of students of the school Sagrada Familia Maristas celebrated yesterday the song of the Akathistos in the Parish of San Ginés, an event that was attended by the mayor, José López, who took the opportunity to deliver a very special gift to the patron of the city .

Thus, in the course of the act and after participating in the songs, López gave a replica of his personal staff baton to San Ginés, a staff that was received by the Brother of the Brotherhood of San Ginés de la Jara, Víctor Navarro;

The Brother of the Brotherhood of Romeros de San Ginés de la Jara, Andrés García, and the parish priest of San Ginés, Lázaro Gomariz, who deposited him at the saint's feet on his altar.

The mayor emphasized the figure of San Ginés, which just commemorated his 340 anniversary as Patron of the city, for its unifying character, hence this gift, the replica of his staff, to accompany both the saint who presides over Parish as the image that comes out in August in Romería.

RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS

The Akathistos is a Byzantine chant of the fourth century.

It is the only one left in honor of the Blessed Virgin who is sung by the Universal Church, that is, by Catholics and Orthodox.

It narrates 12 scenes of the life of the Virgin and 12 of its prerogatives.
