Castejon reiterates that the markets will be public and that their privatization has never been considered (26/04/2017)

The municipal markets are not going to be privatized.

The Mayor of the Department of Economic Strategy, Ana Belén Castejón, the representatives of the Association of Merchants of the Southeast (Acosur) and the Association of Sellers of Squares and Markets of Cartagena with the Which has held meetings.

"We have not even come to the possibility of privatizing the markets at any time, which is why I wanted to dispel all the doubts of the traders, we believe in public ownership and we have made this known. Of our markets with the implementation of the Municipal Board of Sale Ambulante, "said the deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.

The head of the Economic Strategy Area explained to the representatives of the markets that the process of renewal of sales positions was completed and there were 15 winners who had submitted their applications but did not comply with the ordinance, either by accumulation of absences or by debts .

"I wanted to give them the opportunity to rectify the shortcomings that had been detected because our goal has never been to harm anyone," said Castejón.

There are currently some salesmen who have not normalized their situation.

Once their files are resolved, the definitive list of vacancies will be drawn up.

On the other hand, the period of allegations open for final approval of the Regulation of Sale Ambulante will end on May 3.

It will then respond to the allegations that have been made and will proceed to submit to the approval of the Municipal Plenary.

After this process, the Municipal Board of Sale will be constituted, that will be integrated in the Municipal Council of Commerce, and will open the procedure for the improvement of positions.

Subsequently, the remaining vacancies will be put out to tender.

"In order to carry out this process, we are going to reinforce the service with an administrative assistant. In addition, I have reminded the merchants that the Thursday street market in Los Urrutias will be a reality very soon," said the deputy mayor.
