The MAPS project involves the students of Anibal School in the recovery of the neighborhood of Los Mateos and the Castle of the Moors (25/04/2017)

This morning, local members of the European project MAPS (Military Assets as Public Spaces) have participated, along with 250 students and teachers of CEIP Aníbal de Los Mateos, in the 'Por tu barrio limpio' day, where it is intended to raise awareness among the Small, through different activities, of the importance of the collaboration to maintain in good conditions the spaces that make up the neighborhood.

During the day, held in the vicinity of the Anibal School, the councilor of the Quality of Life area of ​​the City of Cartagena, Francisco Calderón, participated in this initiative and recalled "the manifest interest of the local government in the Recovery of the neighborhood of Los Mateos and Castillo de Los Moros ".

In this sense, Calderón has assured that, under the coordination of the MAPS European project, "we rely as much with the help of municipal experts and technicians as with the residents of Los Mateos."

For his part, the manager of the municipal society Casco Antiguo and coordinator of the local group, Antonio García, who also participated in the activities carried out this morning, indicated, in line with what Calderón commented, that "in this project Everyone who is willing to work for the recovery of the neighborhood and the Castle, from the European experts to the citizens, seniors and young people.

Finally, Garcia has pointed out that this initiative is part of the work that the MAPS project has been doing for months.

CONDITIONING AND USE OF THE PUBLIC AREA

During the day 'For your neighborhood clean' have been held various activities such as reading the story 'The rainbow fish', cleaning the park of olive trees, located next to the school, or the awards ceremony to the winners of the drawing contest 'Barrio Limpio'.

Likewise, the winners will receive from the hands of the mayor, José López, the awards on Monday May 8 at the social premises of the Neighborhood Association of Los Mateos.

SECOND PHASE OF THE PROJECT

The European project MAPS is in its second phase, which began in June last year and will end in June 2018. During the same, a series of seminars are being held in each of the cities that are part with the aim of Progress in the selected projects and that will be developed in a third phase through a master plan.

Previously, in the first phase, military spaces were identified for public use with social exclusion content.

The local working group is currently composed of various entities such as the Town Hall, through the Mayor's Office, the Culture and Heritage area, AFCORCA (Associação Amigos Veteranos de los Casttilos Cartageneros), the UPCT or charities working in Los Mateos, as Rascasa and the Fénix Group.
