A PROVIDENTIAL CHOICE

These ephemeris also coincide with the providential election of the saint as a patron of Cartagena, who performed the innocent hand of a child extracting his name from the interior of a pitcher, next to the name of other saints of the time.

It was in 1677, when a serious epidemic that attacked the children ravaged the city.

The City Council wanted to implore the mercy of its patron, but nobody knew who it was;

So it was decided his appointment.

Papers with names of several saints were introduced in a pitcher, and a boy drew one with the name of San Gines de La Jara.

But as with the name of San Gines there were already several saints, it was decided to re-enter the name in the chanted and re-draw another.

What was the surprise, when San Gines de la Jara again came out, and so on three consecutive times, finally remembering that San Gines de la Jara was named Patron of Cartagena.
