Agronomists from 18 countries participate in the XI Course on Post-harvest Technology of the UPCT (29/03/2017)

After the great acceptance of the 10 previous annual editions, the School of Agronomists of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is hosting between today and April 4, 2017 the 11th International Course on Technology Postharvest and Minimal Hortofrutícola Processing, recognized as Title Academic.

This edition has registered more than 70 specialists, coming from 18 countries on four continents.

The course is led by Francisco Artés Hernández, Perla Gómez Di Marco and Francisco Artés Calero, from the Post-Collection and Refrigeration Group (GPR-UPCT) and the Institute of Plant Biotechnology (IBV-UPCT).

It is sponsored by relevant companies of the sector such as Tecnidex SAU, Productos Citrosol SAU, Decco Ibérica SA, Fomesa Fruitech SLU, Sakata Seed Ibérica SLU, Sensitech Inc., Bioconservación, Grupo G's España and SPE · 3 SL Portal Poscosecha.

The course will offer about thirty lectures by professors and specialists from leading universities and research centers in the United States, France, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Spain, as well as highly qualified directors and technicians from relevant international companies in The horticultural sector.

Among the topics to be discussed, with great practical content, are the handling and storage of horticultural products, facilities and equipment, packaging, disinfection, quality and food safety and transportation.

It will also deal with the elaboration and conditioning of freshly prepared or fresh products of the "Fourth Range" of ready-to-eat food with its latest innovations.

The course has constituted a forum of professional excellence, both business and teaching, aimed at training technicians and managers of companies, professionals, researchers and students of engineering, related degrees, degrees, masters and doctorates in Europe and Latin America.

To each of the previous editions have attended an average of 80 students from companies and academic institutions of a fortnight of different countries in each edition.

It constitutes a good opportunity to acquire, consolidate and reinforce essential knowledge and of immediate application on the usual and innovative techniques to optimize the manipulation and elaboration of the products hortofrutícolas whole and minimally processed, as well as its technological and metabolic behavior.

Practical workshops will also be developed and the importance of the sector in Spain and the Region of Murcia will be known, in which several industries and state-of-the-art facilities will be visited for their technology, quality and safety.

Following the course, on Wednesday, April 5, an international seminar on new post-collection technologies will be held.
