Cartagena becomes Rumors Free Space (22/03/2017)

The campaign "Cartagena Libre de rumores" was presented on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 21, to the citizens through a march that toured the historic center of the city and a concentration in the square of the City of Cartagena in which this initiative was announced In a festive atmosphere with music and dancing, and declared the place 'Space free of rumors'.

The march began in the Plaza Juan XXIII.

About 200 people from the communities Cepaim, Rascasa, Alraso, La Huertecia, Accem and Columbares, as well as young people from the Intercultural Centers of Cartagena and other citizens who joined the process, went to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento after a banner , Designed by Pablo García, who carried the Councilor of Social Services Maria del Carmen Martin and the councilors of the Municipal Corporation, Pilar Marcos, Francisco Espejo and Antonio Calderón.

Upon arrival at the foot of the steps of the Palace Hall, the Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, was responsible for publicizing the initiative to the citizens.

In his speech he recalled that the event was celebrated on that date on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

"There is an alarming increase in the distorted and negative visions that citizens have of immigrants," said Castejón, who indicated that this initiative is "a clear and decisive commitment to value the management of diversity, to promote the rupture of Stereotypes and prejudices between cultures and in favor of cultural coexistence ".

After the words of presentation of this initiative, and indicate that seeks to put the accent on young people, the latter were responsible for saying why they want a Cartagena free of prejudice.

The messages in favor of integration, interculturality and against free and unjustified value judgments against groups of immigrants, preceded the placement in front of the Palace Hall of a sticker size DIN A4 that establishes the square as a space free of rumors, Designed by young Carol Rivetti of the European Volunteer Service that funds the Erasmus + program.

The event ended with a performance of capoeira by Adabá group and rap singer Dyba.

Also present were the councilor for tourism, Obdulia Gómez, the president of the Cartagena FC Foundation, Isidoro García and the president of the Federation of Clubs of Older People, Maria Beteta, active collaborators of the social initiatives of the Consistory.
