The Cartagena Polytechnic University (UPCT) has today premiered at the Royal Regattas Club of Cartagena its two new sailing vessels, with which it will conduct navigation courses for its students.
The UPCT has acquired two R-18, as well as the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena, with which it has today signed a collaboration agreement to promote sailing competitions among the students of the Region of Murcia through an interuniversity league .
The Cartagena Polytechnic already has its own sailing and regatta equipment.
The agreement also foresees collaborations between the Polytechnic and the Regatta Club in research related to the areas of naval engineering and telecommunications engineering.
Thus, among other nautical studies, the possibility of designing sailboats adapted for the disabled is shuffled.
Summer Scientific Campus
The vessels acquired will also be implemented during the Summer Scientific Campus, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Culture and Sport and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, which will bring Cartagena to groups of Young people from all over Spain during the month of July.
The R-18 (Rabioso 18) is a boat of 5.4 meters of length, 2,08 meters of sleeve and 1.48 meters of draft.
It is very suitable for a complete learning of sailors.
These boats are manufactured in Los Camachos the shipyards of the cartagenera company Sinergia Racing Group SLU
With the new boats, courses will be given to students who come to the UPCT through international mobility programs, such as the Erasmus program, and UPCT students, who see their sports offer reinforced thanks to the support of the Vice-rectors of internationalization and students.
