The grenadiers shamed another year of hero Martin Alvarez. The act in his memory was celebrated Sunday in the Plaza Héroes de Cavite and attended by Francisco Calderón and Juan Pedro Torralba (20/03/2017)

This Sunday, March 19, the Group of Grenadiers Marrajos paid tribute to Martin Alvarez, war hero of the Spanish Navy who fought with honor against the English in the naval battle of Cape St. Vincent.

This recognition has been celebrated by the Cofradía for 30 years and in this edition was celebrated the 251 anniversary of the birth of this courageous marine, promoted after his deed, and since then has always given a name to a Active ship of the Navy.

The event of tribute to the sailor took place in the Plaza de los Héroes de Cavite and Cuba at 12.00 p.m. and the second and third deputy mayor Francisco Calderón and Juan Pedro Torralba respectively attended.

During the ceremony, as was tradition, the distinctive crosses of merit and constancy were handed over to members of the group, and it was concluded by honoring those fallen by Spain.

The day, however, had more activities.

Prior to the arrival at the plaza at 9.30 am, a mass was held in the military parish of Santo Domingo, where the third participated and a later parade in which the granaderos marrajos toured the main streets of the historic center of Cartagena .

In addition, after the act of recognition to Martín Álvarez, the parade continued and visits were made to Arsenal, where the grenadiers enjoyed a meal of brotherhood, and the Guardia Civil barracks.
