City Council and EMACC collaborate to build a Day Center for the treatment of neurological diseases in Cartagena (09/03/2017)

The mayor of Cartagena, José López, accompanied by the councilor of the Quality of Life area, Francisco Calderón, met this Friday, March 9, with the president of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cartagena and Comarca (EMACC), María Ángeles Ros;

The vice president, Juan Luis López;

The treasurer, Félix Jiménez, and a social worker of the same, Miriam Conesa.

During the meeting, as the president of the association explained, the members of the association have transferred to the representatives of the local government the need to have an Integral Center for the treatment of neurodegenerative and related diseases, which would be the first in Set in motion in the Autonomous Community.

The EMACC social worker explained that the Day Center they plan to "facilitate the work of providing continuous and daily services" while contributing "to the family respite of people who have a great dependence and are in need of daily care and We would help maintain and improve skills and personal autonomy. "

On this issue, Conesa has detailed that "there is already a draft project" that includes its functionality and space needs. For this reason, the representatives of the association have requested the municipal support to materialize the advanced work on a concrete terrain and begin the building.

For its part, the local government has shown its willingness to collaborate and to study the different options proposed in order to find the right location for the Day Center, taking into account that the new Municipal General Plan for Urban Planning, Which, in a way, conditions the capacity for action.

EMACC

The Association of Multiple Sclerosis of Cartagena and Comarca is a non-profit organization whose objective is to promote the grouping of people with multiple sclerosis in their area of ​​action, providing a comprehensive service in relation to physical and psychological rehabilitation;

Cognitive stimulation

Social care;

Leisure, or family respite.

They also seek to provide information on the disease, to raise public awareness and management of problems of cure, treatment and prevention, to stimulate and promote research in all its processes, as well as to cooperate with entities of the same or similar purpose that generate changes in Social attitude and allow the improvement in the quality of life of the people affected.

In the Region of Cartagena, an estimated 375 people are affected by multiple sclerosis.

The association is based on Sor Francisca Armendáriz Street and operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. From 16:30 to 20:00 hours, in addition to the phones (868) 09 52 53 and 648 28 08 28.
