Cartagena returns to the national cycling map (02/03/2017)

The Club Ciclista Cartagena has started this new season 2017 with the aim of being a reference in national-based cycling with its teams Cartagena-Esetec, male youth category, and Cartagena-Arocam, male cadet.

Thus, next Thursday, March 9, has been scheduled the official presentation of the teams in the City of Cartagena, which will be the responsibility of the Councilor for the Sports Area, Ricardo Segado.

The season began for both teams this past weekend with their participation in the Memorial Pere Vilardebó, which was played over two stages in Santa Eulalia de Ronçana (Barcelona) with the presence of more than 25 teams, including several foreigners.

Thus, in the first stage, which was a demanding time trial by teams of 6'5 kilometers, Cartagena-Esetec was imposed in junior category with 8 seconds on the Castillo de Onda team and 13 seconds on the Valverde Team.

Thus, Antonio David Guerao was placed leader of the general classification with his companions Leonardo Finkler and Denis Vulcan at the same time.

Meanwhile, in the cadet category, the Cartagena-Arocam also showed a good performance and managed to get the fifth place to 28 seconds of the winner, the Catalan team UC Vilanova.

The last stage of the test took place on a broken terrain with several mountain passes, 75 kilometers for juniors and 52 kilometers for cadets.

In the minor category, David Valera, from Cartagena-Arocam, was protagonist as part of the escape of six cyclists that formed in the last scoring climb, only hunted in the final kilometers.

The race was decided in a sprint of a small platoon of about 35 or 40 units in which two members of Cartagena-Arocam, Alejandro González and David Valera, who finished 13th and 14th in the General Final, respectively.

In the juvenile version, the hardness of the stage propitió that a group of seven cyclists arrived emphasized to goal.

It included the Cartagena-Esetec cyclist Denis Vulcan, who finished fifth in the stage and managed to prevail in the General Final.

In turn, Antonio David Guerao and Leonardo Finkler, who finished in eighth and ninth position, remained in the Top 10 of the General of this Memorial Pere Vilardebó.

Thus, the great work done by the whole group gave the victory to Cartagena-Esetec in the General by Teams.
