Pedro Riera has started the second round of meetings with author of the Hache Prize.

The Auditorium of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has witnessed the start of the first of two days that the writer has scheduled with the youth audience in charge of evaluating the three finalists and decide which will ultimately be awarded.

'The Tomb of Aurora K' (Edebé, 2014), a novel inspired by the author's experience during his stay in the Balkans area and the fratricidal war that ravaged these lands at the end of the 20th century, is the work Which this author participates in this contest framed within the program Mandarache 2017. According to the writer himself, this book aims to raise awareness among young people of pain that produce this type of armed conflict, hatred and genocide so that human beings do not repeat their Own mistakes, issues that have influenced the process of creating the literary work.

HACHE AWARD

The Hache Prize is aimed at a sector still younger than the Mandarache Prize within the section of youth literature.

This award is based on the decision of a multitudinous jury of about 1800 adolescents who work the finalist books in their respective educational centers and then evaluate them and decide with their vote the novel that obtains recognition, a pioneering idea.

In the event held at the Auditorium of the UPCT, and attended by the Councilor for Youth, Ricardo Segado, Ramona Sánchez, a member of the Promoter Group of the Mandarache Prize, a school librarian and teacher of the Colegio San Vicente Paul.

Also during the meeting Riera has submitted to the questions of more than 600 students and secondary students, who have transmitted their doubts and opinions about the work itself that moments later would have the opportunity for the same writer to sign and dedicate .

CONTACT THE READERS

"It is always a pleasure for the author to be able to speak to your readers," said Riera in relation to this first meeting that he described as "great" and for whose experience he has said he feels "happy".

Regarding the issues raised by young people, the author explained that his readers "always ask for the love story" of the novel, as it is a story line that matches the interests of adolescents.

The writer has taken advantage to praise the work of the Mandarache Project in terms of the promotion of culture and, more specifically, of literature among the youth audience.

In this line, he believes that these awards "are proof that with will and work you can create incredible projects for the promotion of reading among the young and not so young."

In this regard, he commented that for him, as an author, "the mere fact of being a finalist of the prize is already a prize in itself" and added that "that prize is a seal" in the book that allows "reaching many more readers" And thus to achieve greater diffusion.

"Here in the Mandarache just to be a finalist you have already guaranteed 1800 readers, and that is an outrage, for us, the writers, is very good," he said.

EXEMPLARY PROGRAM

Riera advocated promoting similar programs beyond the municipality.

"I think it should be copied in the rest of Spain, there should be many more initiatives," he said.

The writer has highlighted the operation of the contest and the methodology of choosing the award-winning educational works for adolescents, because "they make them read in another way, they have them read in a critical way and it is they who have to decide between three Books and choose which one they like the most. "

The author of 'The tomb of Aurora K' considers that "that is very good in order to encourage reading to penetrate more in books."
