Sergió Gutiérrez was proclaimed champion of the LXVII Challenge Cup City of Cartagena by beating the final to Alejandro Ibanez in two sets 6-1 and 7-5.
The Alicante was superior at all times and took the game that faced him this Saturday to the tennis player of Puertollano in the facilities of the Cartagena Tennis Club.
The final was attended by Councilor for Sports and Youth, Ricardo Segado, and Councilor for the Quality of Life and Health Area, Francisco José Calderón, who participated in the awards ceremony, along with the general director of Sports, Alonso Gómez.
The competition, which is the third oldest in Spain in this discipline, has been developed in two stages: a previous one, which took place between 5 and 7 February, and the final phase, which began on the 8th and concluded the Saturday with the dispute of the trophy between Gutiérrez and Ibáñez.
The first phase had a table of 32 players, of which 26 were ranked by national ranking and six by invitation, while the second phase consisted of 16 players, who were those who had passed the previous cut.
This year's edition has increased the amounts of the prizes.
The winner, who has turned out to be Sergio Gutiérrez, takes 1000 euros, while the second classified, Alejandro Ibáñez, was made with 500 euros.
On the other hand, the semifinalists obtained 250 euros each;
Those who reached the quarterfinals, 125 euros and who reached the eighth, 60 euros.
The rest of players who participated in the previous stage got 30 euros.
In addition, for the 16 players of the final table there was full accommodation paid by the organization, so that the budget of this edition of the City of Cartagena Challenge Cup amounted to a total of 9,000 euros.
