The Town Council will sue the Sports Palace UTE if it does not remedy the deficiencies. The mayor rejects that the contractor "continue throwing balls outside" after the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia has certified that the pavement (30/01/2017)

The mayor of Cartagena, José López, and the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, accompanied by the general director of Infrastructures, Manuel Nicolás, held this morning a meeting with Dragados area manager, Gregorio Fernández, to discuss the current state Of the Palace of Sports and demand to the UTE (Temporary Union of Companies) in charge of its construction solutions that allow to open the installation with all the guarantees.

During this meeting, municipal officials have transferred to Fernandez the content of the report made, at the request of the City Council, by the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV).

This body has ruled that the pavement is not suitable for the ball boat.

The Institute of Biomechanics is a technological center that studies the behavior of the human body and its relation with the products, environments and services that people use.

Lopez has lamented that the company continues to "throw balls out", and has said that the municipal technicians are going to prepare a new report on the deficiencies of the facility.

Among these problems, he mentioned leaks and leaks, as well as other issues concerning the pool or pavement of the main track, as well as "the hundreds of nails that should be covered not only for aesthetics but also for the safety of users ".

"The last report of the IBV supposes a thorough sampling of the situation of the track and, of the five points analyzed, it is not suitable in two of them", indicated the first mayor, and among these they emphasize those related to the boat of the ball and With the possibility of producing injuries in athletes.

On the other hand, the mayor has not ruled out the possibility of going to court in order to solve this situation.

In this sense, José López has clarified that if when they send the report of the municipal technicians do not get a response "in the sense of trying to remedy", they will be obliged to "go to court."

The construction of the Palacio de los Deportes began in 2006 with a budget of 14 million euros and an execution period of 18 months.

More than ten years later, the cost has already risen above 20 million euros.
