Francisco Jose Franco presented his new book set in the cantonal uprising in Cartagena (30/01/2017)

The Rotary Club of Cartagena presented the book 'Cantón y libertad' by Francisco José Franco Fernández, the official chronicler of Cartagena, and edited in the 'Read, think, imagine' program promoted by the Department of Culture. This same society.

Also in attendance were the mayor, José López, and the councilor for the area of ​​Culture, Heritage, Youth and Sports, Ricardo Segado.

The ceremony also had the performance of the Unión Musical Cartagonova, which played such well known and significant pieces as La Marseillaise, Suspiros de España - by maestro Álvarez Alonso - or Giuseppe Verdi's Aida's Triumphal March.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

'Cantón y Libertad' is the third novel by Francisco José Franco and is set in the early days of the cantonal uprising in Cartagena.

In the context of those historic days of July, Dr. Manuel Cárceles (only 19 years old) becomes the most outstanding leader of the uprising, getting the main centers of civil and military power to declare themselves faithful to the federalist movement.

In those novels and historical moments, a young friend of his, Leandro Rolandi, in his capacity as editor of the newspaper "El Cantón Murciano" and improvised the thread of a parallel story, is involved in a game of interests promoted by foreign powers with presence in the city.

The result is a tale of intrigue, mysteries to be solved and love entanglements within the framework of a living city, center and heart of the hope of reaching a new Spain.

As the president of the Rotary Club of Cartagena advanced in his meeting with the mayor, prior to the official presentation of the work, the book can be purchased at the Club's own premises, at the Casa Beltrí restaurant, or at the Centro de The street Santa Florentina and the Plaza Juan XXIII for the price of 15 euros.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Francisco José Franco Fernández is one of the four official cronistas of Cartagena and also is professor of History.

He also holds a bachelor's degree in Geography and History and Law and Doctor in Anthropology.

Also it represents in Cartagena to the Cultural Foundation Miguel Hernández and to the Center of Historical Studies and Local Initiatives of the Region of Murcia.
