The local group of the MAPS project collects in Koblenz new ideas for the recovery of the Castle of the Moors and the neighborhood of Los Mateos (26/01/2017)

Members of the local group of the European project MAPS (Military Assets as Public Spaces) are participating this week in the German city of Koblenz in the conference where the opinions of the experts on the proposals for action for the recovery of Abandoned military spaces in degraded spaces.

In this way, the Cartagena representation has been able to advance in the project of revaluation of the Castle of the Moors and the district of Los Mateos through the diverse contributions made by the representatives of the nine cities participating in MAPS (Cartagena, Piacenza, Varazdin , Szombathely, Espinho, Koblenz, Longford, Serres and Telsiai).

Likewise, actions aimed at the temporary use of military spaces, including citizen participation, have been presented, and various buildings of interest in Koblenz have been visited to see firsthand the work that has been done there.

This meeting, financed by the MAPS program, is the second of the four to be carried out in the second phase, involving a small stop in the way of the project undertaken by the local group of Cartagena under the name of 'For a neighborhood Clean ', thanks to which have already removed more than eighty tons of debris and garbage in the neighborhood of Los Mateos and Castillo de Los Moros with the participation of neighbors in the area.

MEETING IN CARTAGENA

Last October, the first session of the second phase of the MAPS project was held in Cartagena, attended by members of the nine cities, led by Gloria Cerliani, leader of the project, and by the architect Luca Lanzoni, designated By the European Union.

During the conference began to gather the opinions of the participants on the proposals for action in the Castillo de los Moros and the neighborhood of Los Mateos that emerged from the local group and were reflected in the survey 'ContiGo'.

Cartagena presented, through the manager of the municipal society Casco Antiguo, Antonio García, and of the municipal technicians, different experiences like the Route of the Strengths, projects like the one of the Botanical Garden and the Manifesto Fénix.

In addition to the meetings at the School of Architecture of the UPCT, a visit was made to the Castle itself and to the neighborhood.

After the tour, the experts highlighted the numerous possibilities of this fortification, as well as the need to integrate the neighbors in their recovery and in the neighborhood itself.

SECOND PHASE OF THE PROJECT

The European MAPS project is now in its second phase, which began in June last year and will end in June 2018. During the year, a series of seminars are being held in each of the cities that are part of the project. Progress in the selected projects and that will be developed in a third phase through a master plan.

Previously, in the first phase, military spaces were identified for public use with social exclusion content.

The local working group is currently composed of various entities such as the Town Hall, through Mayor's Office, the Culture and Heritage area, AFORCA (Association of Veteran Friends of the Carthusian Castles), the UPCT or associations working in Los Mateos, such as Rascasa And the Fénix Group
