A new occupational classroom at the IES Mediterraneo will train its students in gardening (20/01/2017)

The Councilor for Education, David Martinez, attended this Friday, January 20, the presentation of the occupational classroom of the Mediterranean IES to prevent early school dropout among students in Cartagena and that hosts this course to a group of eight students.

Thus, the City Council has made available to the center an educator, while the Ministry of Education is in charge of the teaching staff in this program that, according to Martínez, responds to a need for those students "who are hard to go to class" giving them The opportunity to pursue their official studies "in a motivating way and with very small groups" so that "they not only complete Compulsory Secondary Education but also find a way out when they finish it.

In this sense, the IES Mediterráneo occupational classroom is focused on gardening.

The councilman recalled that this year has been delayed the presentation since "the idea was, as last year, that it began in September" but a change in a resolution of the Ministry of Education of CARM prevented it.

Despite this, he has shown his joy as "this Friday begins work on this occupational classroom."

Francisco Martínez, Head of the Diversity Attention Service, explained that this is an initiative that has been carried out since 2001, but that this time it works "under a new regulation, which is experimental, to see How it works, "and includes groups of" students with rejection of school, with problems of absenteeism. "

The program consists of grouping the second and third subjects of the ESO in areas according to the students.

Thus, they are divided into two areas, socio-linguistic and scientific-technological.

In addition to this, a more intensive schedule related to a professional family linked to a professional training program of adapted modality is made.

The treatment of the different subjects by the faculty is eminently practical so that students who are not yet old enough to join fully to a training program have the opportunity to prepare for their professional future before reaching the age of 16 and Thus to be directed to the Basic Professional Training or to some professional training program of adapted modality.

"We hope that this measure will result in a decision on your part to continue the studies, either in the Basic Vocational Training or in a professional training program of adapted modality", said the Head of the Service of Attention to Diversity
