A report from the University of Murcia defends the position of the City Council on the PGOU (27/12/2016)

On Tuesday, December 27th, a report by Dr. Soro Mateo of the University of Murcia on the scope and effects of the nullity of the General Plan for Urban Planning (PGOU) in Cartagena was presented to the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena.

The Mayor, José López, attended the presentation of the document, along with the Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, at a ceremony also attended by the Director General of Territorial Planning, Nuria Fuentes, representatives of municipal groups, such as Francisco Espejo, Álvaro Valdés, Manuel Padín, Alfredo Nieto or Pilar Marcos, the director of the Mayor's Office, Jesús Giménez;

And members of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Comarca.

Miguel Martínez, the President of the Chamber, pointed out the need to remedy the shortcomings in the form of a document, in order to preserve the administrative act in the interest of legal certainty in the absence of a substantial change.

Martinez has indicated the suitability of "protecting the productive fabric of the Shire," while calling for "accountability."

Likewise, it has pointed out that the lack of validity of the plan, and having to be governed by that of the 87, has negative consequences such as the impossibility that new companies can settle in the Valley of Escombreras, outlining the importance of resolving as soon as possible The current situation of the PGOU as the most important administrative act for a city.

Meanwhile, the mayor, José López, has pointed out, during his speech, the satisfaction of the municipal government with the result of the report, in addition to thanking the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce to carry it out.

Likewise, he recalled that "from the City Council we have always been in this process of the hand of the Ministry of Development and Infrastructures."

López has stated that Cartagena can not afford to pay ten years without a general plan, thanking them, finally, that the businessmen affected by the paralysis of the PGOU have not requested their compensation in the face of the damages caused to them by the Consequent impairment that would provoke in the municipal coffers.
