Education works to alleviate the consequences of the storm in schools (19/12/2016)

Deputy Mayor Ana Belén Castejón and Councilor for Education David Martinez Noguera have visited the educational centers of some of the most affected towns in the municipality on Monday morning because of the rain and wind from this weekend, In which up to 200 liters per square meter have been registered.

Deputy Mayor Ana Belén Castejón pointed out that there are many centers in the north and rural areas that present serious problems of access and accumulation of water, such as that of Pozo Estrecho.

This shows that the decision taken yesterday by the government team to suspend classes was successful.

Throughout the morning of yesterday the Councilor of Education and I were analyzing with the technicians the consequences of rain in schools and today we have corroborated that there were many damages to remedy before allowing the children to return to the classroom, highlighted Castejón .

The municipal workers have begun the first hour with the works so that the classes, which are resumed tomorrow, are not affected and the students can return to the class without difficulties.

The centers that have been most affected by the intense rains are those close to the channel of the ramblas, such as La Aljorra and Pozo Estrecho, where the patios are flooded and it has been necessary to use bilge pumps.

The most difficult is the Pozo Estrecho but we will do everything in our hands to remedy them as soon as possible, has qualified the deputy mayor.

As reported by Councilor for Education, David Martinez, there have been incidents of leaks in a total of 15 schools (La Aljorra, Santa Maria Buen Aire, Poet Antonio Oliver, Primitiva López, San Francisco Javier, Feliciano Sánchez, Vicente Ros , Azorín, San Ginés de la Jara, José María la Puerta, Asomada, Santa Florentina, Virgin of Charity, Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente).

In this sense, the centers with prefabricated classrooms have suffered the most damage, but the municipal technicians are already solving the problem.

Also highlight the fall of a tree in the CEIP Poeta Antonio Oliver in the neighborhood of San José Obrero, and two more inclined in the school Mastia of the city of Cartagena.

In both cases they are already withdrawing.
