Citizens are pleased that the local government has now recognized the need to establish public urinals in Cartagena (28/11/2016)

Ciudadanos Cartagena presented in the municipal plenary of October a motion in which asked the municipal government to study the possibility and feasibility of enabling public urinals permanent in the streets of Cartagena.

Although it was unanimously approved, the local executive said that it would develop the motion through portable chemical toilets at specific times, and not permanently as the content of the Citizens proposal requested.

The city of Cartagena does not have public toilets in its streets, they are installed only temporarily for some parties, such as Carthaginians and Romans, or La Mar de Músicas.

The absence of authentic public services has caused certain corners of our old town to become improvised urinals.

This lack of hygiene has caused periodically the complaint more than justified of the neighbors and passers-by.

For this reason, Citizens Cartagena presented in the last plenary session in October an initiative that asked the municipal government to study the feasibility and feasibility of enabling these urinals.

The Councilor for Decentralization, Juan Pedro Torralba, announced today in the Bureau of the Night Pact, that the local government recognizes the need to enable permanent public urinals, and is studying to provide the city with these facilities.

Although the proposal went ahead in October unanimously, the local government responded that they had voted in favor "because we are already working on it, we have already given the order to draw up the sheets for the rental of toilets Portable for the various events organized by the different Councils, we are convinced that this operation will reduce the costs per unit and can be installed toilets in more areas of the city.

This was not the sense of the Citizens' motion, which requested the authorization of permanent toilets in Cartagena.

The Citizens spokesman in Cartagena, Manuel Padin, has celebrated that "now the local government recognizes the need to provide the city with permanent public urinals."

Manuel Padín stated that "it is necessary to take into account the great importance of tourism in general, and that of cruises in particular, in this city, the image we want to offer tourists about our center, especially when they are being One of the main sources of wealth today ".

Diverse groups, such as neighborhood associations and businessmen, have repeatedly stated the desirability of re-installing public toilets on the streets.

In this way, from Citizens we believe that the unhealthy image offered by certain corners of our city, especially during night time, would be stopped.

There are many cities in Spain that enjoy public urinals.

Without going any further, Alicante, Zaragoza or Valencia have them.

Therefore, from Citizens we think that our municipality should have stable public urinals, as well as other cities of our country.
