Cartagena participates in the XI Meeting of the Network of Intercultural Cities on Human Rights and management of religious diversity (28/10/2016)

Representing the City of Cartagena he was attended by the Councillor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martin.

The mayor has participated on 27 and 28 October at the seminar on Religious Diversity, which seeks to provide deherramientas to address prejudice and collaborate with religious minorities and is organized by the Network of Intercultural European Cities (ICC) Council of Europe .

During working hours have been addressed organizational issues, to provide the RECI greater capacity for action and project management, through a new structure, which will be defined in the coming months.

It has been a very fruitful meeting since the objective is to make the RECI more effective, something that will undoubtedly benefit us all, said the Councillor for Social Services.

In addition, they have tried the new RECI-ICC targets for 2017, ie the new challenges that the management of cultural diversity and the struggle for equality means for municipalities.

Next year, the ICC network is ten years old and all cities will focus our actions on human rights and on the management and monitoring of religious diversity, which is an issue that increasingly takes on a greater role.

Managing this issue is essential in our societies, which are more diverse and sociocultural, said Councilwoman Carmen Martin.

The agenda also included issues related to local action and refugees, reviewing and analyzing the experience of Spanish and European cities.

The City of Cartagena power and management develops a recognized diversity, actively participating in the spaces and meetings both at national and European level are developing, thereby showing its commitment to a model of intercultural society.

Next to Cartagena attended by representatives of cities among which are Barakaldo, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Bergen, Birmingham, Botkyrka, Fez, Fuenlabrada, Geneva, Lisbon, Lyon, Melitopol, Neuchael, Parla, Rabat, Rijeka, Rotterdam, Sabadel, San Sebastian, Stavager, Tenerife, Tetouan and Vinnytsia.

RED Intercultural Cities, RECI

Cartagena belongs to Intercultural Cities Network since its inception in 2011. The RECI depends on the European Network Intercultural Citie (ICC) and the Council of Europe and has the support of the Obra Social La Caixa Foundation.

They are more than a hundred cities that make up the European network and the Spanish cities are: Castellón, Jerez, Barcelona, ​​San Sebastian, Bilbao, Getxo, Parla, Sabadell, Fuenlabrada, Tenerife, Getafe, Logroño and Cartagena.
