Culture presents the first quarterly program of Cartagena Think (11/10/2016)

Councillor for Culture, David Martinez, with a doctorate in Philosophy, Bethlehem Rosa de Gea, Antonio Campillo, dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Murcia, and Beatriz Miguel, dean of research at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, has today introduced the first program of activities, conferences and workshops Think Cartagena for the months of October, November and December;

an innovative program of 53 activities with a new approach that breaks with this reductionist and conventional view of culture, which confines itself to what is already enshrined as culture for centuries, painting, sculpture, theater, adding scientific and abstract thinking, as David Martinez, Councillor for Culture of Cartagena.

The idea that the Cartagena Think project is based is to incorporate the thought, philosophy and scientific culture to the municipal cultural programming, as a necessity linked to the formation of a critical citizenry, able to intervene in debates make a participatory democracy and quality.

In the words of Councilman Martinez, all scientific and humanistic knowledge can reach people in a simple, clear and fun way.

Ramon Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center will be the site, although one of the hallmarks of this program is decentralization, reaching all districts and councils of Cartagena through their libraries.

To do this, libraries of La Manga, the industrial area of ​​Santa Ana, or La Aljorra, among others, will host 27 workshops on drones, plant biotechnology, etc.

Also they included in this programming activities in collaboration with the Astronomical Association of Cartagena, with talks and night observations in the Astronomical Center Canteras and the development of science and thought debates in cafes.

UPCT meanwhile, will move its technological work and research to cartagenera society in general, through an extensive list of workshops, some playful aimed at children.

The Department of Culture together with a promoter group consisting of citizens, associations, and other institutional representatives, launched the Cartagena Think project almost a year ago, the result of work of the Conference of Cartagena, Culture and Municipality, which last took place month of November.
