Cartagena Port of Cultures joins the celebrations of Carthaginians and Romans (13/09/2016)

The cultural offer of our city this September continues with more activities in Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Museum of the Roman Theatre, which also joined the celebration of the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans.

Cartagena Port of Cultures will hold an open house at their centers and the Roman Theatre primarily directed to citizens and as a climax to the celebrations on Sunday 25 September.

All museums and sites of the city, Roman Theatre, Punic Wall, House of Fortune, Refuge and Museum of the Civil War, Barrio Roman Forum, Augusteum, Castillo de la Concepcion and Fort Christmas, will remain open during normal business hours and you can visit for free.

On the other hand, the bus tour of Cartagena Port of Cultures will integrate in its route a new stopping point on the day camp during the holidays.

The new route will coincide with the schedule of the camp from 12:00 hours.

The tour will begin at its usual departure point for the ride Alfonso XII touring the C / Real, Plaza de Spain and Alameda de San Anton, until the festive camp where the first stop will be made with the possibility of lowering and raising in the following tours .

From this point, continue with your usual route.

In addition, throughout this week of festivities, free access to these museums and sites to revelers dressed in his Carthaginian or Roman costume will be allowed.

Thus the stage where the events occurred represented during these celebrations will open its doors for the protagonists of the story.

Deputy Mayor and President of Cartagena Port of Cultures, Ana Belén Castejon, said that the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans deserve all the support that the City and its agencies can offer.

For ten days our history comes alive and so must our deposits.

It is the best way to show our history, our heritage and wealth that Cartagena has to offer, Castejon said.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

GUIDED ROUTE QART Hadast A CARTHAGONOVA

A route where Hannibal and Scipio are the protagonists of the story.

Qart Hadast, founded by Barca in 229 BC, was the capital of the Carthaginian empire in Iberia.

Ancient historians describe as a city where rivers ran silver and its port came people from all parts of the Mediterranean.

From the imposing Punic Wall, which left Hannibal to face off against Roma, will start this special route, scene of the great battle, which was fought for Roman general Scipio Africanus in 209 BC It is from this moment, when Carthago Nova it becomes an important and rich city, building magnificent houses, such as Casa de Fortuna, a full house decorated with splendid paintings and mosaics, culminating the draft classic beauty in the Grand Theatre, built during the reign of emperor Augustus.

WORKSHOP SCIPIO VS ANIBAL

The Roman Theatre also joins the celebration of the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans and does Scipio Versus Hannibal.

Every Saturday of September, this activity that encourages families to enjoy one of the most important historical events of our city is organized.

Participants to this visit, discover the ins and outs of the Second Punic War and its protagonists, Hannibal and Scipio.

They also know first hand one of the most emblematic of the Roman city, which rose in times of Emperor Augustus buildings.

Children will be part of a troop or legion, and celebrate the triumph in the Roman Theatre in Cartagena.

PATRICIA A GUIDED TOUR IN THE HOUSE OF FORTUNE

A patrician in the House of Fortune is a dramatized tour that aims to identify a Roman house, the hand of a Roman patrician, belonging to the nobility of the time, where we know the life and customs of the inhabitants of Carthago Nova that belonged to Roman empire.

The dramatized tour will take us on a journey into the past, where we will learn the techniques of mosaics and paintings that decorate the House of Fortune, a domus of 240 sqm, which presents all full stays where discover the secrets, rituals, fashions, leisure and gastronomy art of the Roman world.

A dramatized tour that makes fun and entertaining history of the citizens of ancient Carthago Nova.
