Students of the Polytechnic optimize tailpipes Turbokit to meet emission limits (29/08/2016)

Two students of Industrial Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena have dedicated their final thesis (TFC) to try a bike.

Specifically, to model the thermo-fluid dynamics of a motor varying the constructive exhaust pipe for more power without exceeding the new limit emissions and to implement the dyno, unique in the region, which has made it possible Murcia company Turbokit teste their escapes before standardize them in the laboratory of the UPCT.

"The company asked us to design replacement leaks from optimizing their performance and overcome new tests hologación Euro3" explains Professor Francisco Vera, the research group on modeling of thermal and energy systems.

"Size the exhaust and the catalyst, including the rate and amount of noble metals, to comply with the rules of emission control," says the student and entitled Daniel Albaladejo Hernandez, who started in profiling escapes with the team competition Moto UPCT.

"More and more restrictions, not only power and noise emissions now, so that we can make tests in Cartagena allows us to go much safer for approval.

Before going blind, "says Francisco Jose Martinez, manager Turbokit, a family company with 50 years of experience exporting to the rest of Europe, Japan and the United States half of its production.

"Until now we did not how to measure the full cycle emissions.

With the test of the UPCT we will be able to combine their technological expertise with our experience, "he adds.

The TFC another student of the Polytechnic, Miguel Angel Gonzalez Pozo has allowed implement the system of control and measurement of this test, developed under the direction of Professor Jose Hernandez Grau, the research group in Thermal and Fluids Engineering, and its adaptation to the measurement and analysis of exhaust gases, for what has been attended researcher Juan Carlos Molina, the research group Intelligent Automation and Control.

The first leaks Turbokid modeled by the UPCT and already approved by the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) were performed for Yamaha T-Max 530 cubic centimeters and a Kawasaki J300, getting upgrades power up to 5 horses in the frequent levels of speed and low engine emissions and noise.

"Each model has its peculiarities in emissions, so the modeling is different for each escape," says Hernandez Grau, who led the final two student work.

The test is in the Research Laboratory Vehicle Systems (SiVeLab) funded Feder EU and located in the center of Development and Technological Innovation (CEDIT) UPCT in the Technology Park Fuente Alamo.

The launch of dynamometer testing motorcycles EEA Grants received European funding for a project CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development).

In this lab UPCT, testing truck engines and propulsion systems they are also made with thermal and electric motor.
